The neglectful service ruined everything. I ordered the Crudo e Melone, which was delicious and fresh. Then, however, I had to wait at least thirty minutes for the pasta to arrive, while watching every table around me receive their meals... Even those who arrived after I had finished my first course.
When the pasta arrived, I said "finalmente", and the smug larger waiter just said "we are full", without any kind of understanding. Everyone else had long finished eating! I found him dismissive and disrespectful.
The waiters likely neglected to inform the kitchen that I had finished my first course. I continued to be completely ignored by him. The pasta was ok, but a relatively small portion. So, I left hungry. It's a shame that 'the table for one' remains the loneliest, because not even the staff care to check in.
RESPONSE TO OWNER
It wouldn't be wise to tell me what I understand. I worked in hospitality for over a decade, in different cities. So, what I understand is that there were three floor staff serving 25 people max. 11 tables. I can recount everyone I saw.
You certainly exaggerate when you say you were taking care of over 50 people. There were three of you, taking care of 25. I didn't think that there were two of me at home on a Sunday night. That's condescending. There was one of me, it was lunch time, and I thought I was a guest at your restaurant, who was hoping to enjoy the experience I was PAYING for. A table for one is still part of your income, and deserves fair treatment.
Instead of reflecting on my feedback, you've misrepresented my experience, and attempted to gaslight other diners who pay attention to honest experiences, and reality....
Read moreUpdate 2021: The quality of food is still good, but the price value relation is out of bounds. 32 Eur for a mixed fish platter with two tiny fish, one shrimp and a piece of swordfish is just not adequate. We have eaten better and cheaper in more exclusive places during our travels in Sicily. Very sad, because I hoped this would be our place to go during our 4 night stay in Catania.
**** Original Review *
Antonio's is the place to go if you are into fish and shellfish. Had the best raw seafood platter and the best seafood pasta. The latter is coming wrapped in silver foil and is cooked to perfection with lots of seafood. try the tomato salad, it will change your life! Portion are good, not exaggerated. the staff is courteous and really helpful - I can see why many locals visit this restaurant. the atmosphere is lovely - unlike the many oversized and crowded other places in Catania, this is a modestly big place and offers a fairly good and quiet (for Catania standards) atmosphere. the prices are absolutely fair, even inexpensive depending on where you come from. If you arrive between 8 and 10 pm you should reserve a table. Antonio's is an absolute...

We had Pasta alla Norma as an appetizer, and for the main courses, we ordered mussels and the mixed grill. We also ordered a plate of grilled vegetables. The quality of the food was good, and overall, the meal was solidly prepared. It was honest, tasty cuisine without any big surprises.
As a simpler establishment, Trattoria Da Antonio offers a fair price-performance ratio. You get good ingredients for your money, and the prices are reasonable for what is provided.
