Trattoria Da Peppino di Tumia Giovanni — Restaurant in Catania

I can't remember the last time I left a 1 star review for or the last time I walked out of a restaurant, but this place left me no choice. We arrived at 7 PM as the second table of the evening. We asked if we could sit outside, and we were abruptly and unapologetically told "No". That started things off on the wrong foot, but we were willing to continue. We were seated inside the very warm and stuffy restaurant and were handed menus. We waited over 20 minutes before we finally left. We were completely ignored that entire time. I understand if a restaurant is busy and can't serve customers right away, but this place was not busy at all - they only had one other table of guests! We would have been happy to wait if we had received some type of communication telling us that the service was going to be slow for some reason that wasn't apparent, but we were literally ignored the entire time we sat at the table. We were flabbergasted because we had chosen this place based on the positive reviews, but we finally left the restaurant because we were not sure we would ever be served.

The vibe of this place was like when you go to someone's house for dinner and the husband and wife were having a huge fight right before you arrived and then they are angry and silent in front of everyone. It was so awkward and strange!

This place recommended by our host but unfortunately, we couldn’t find the experience that we’re looking for. I wouldn’t recommend this place for foreigners if you’re visiting Catania.

Reasons: They don’t have enough people to serve and it took a lot of time to serve. There were a lot of people looking each other and waiting for food. The quality of fish and seafood was lower than other places that we tried in Palermo and Catania. We have ordered grilled fish & swordfish slice and they were both far from being tasty. Staff don’t speak English very well and menu was not clear. They were doing their best but most of the time, they were skipping us since they have other urgent stuff. While paying the bill, there were some inconsistencies. My friends mentioned them and they’ve corrected but if we’re drunk, we would probably not realize it. The last thing but for me the most important part, if I order tomato salat, I expect salad not the tomatoes only. I’m leaving...

Pessima esperienza. Ho invitato a cena un mio amico ed ho pensato bene di portarlo in questa trattoria scegliendo la carrellata di antipasti e poi se avessimo avuto fame avremmo ordinato pasta e secondo. Ho ordinato al cameriere un calice di vino ed una bottiglia di acqua chiedendo pure di non portare pesce marinato perché al mio amico non piaceva. Velocemente arrivano le prime 3 portate di pesce marinato quindi non più una cosìcome mi aveva detto il cameriere (le acciughe non fresche e da buttare)poi arriva il polipo duro e gommoso da poterci giocare a tennis. Successivamente portano del tonno in agrodolce strapieno di cipolla così da camuffarne lo sgradevole sapore di frigorifero e degli involtini di salmone ripieni di formaggio spalmabile (circa 300 gr di ripieno) ed una pepata di cozze scaldata, del giorno prima almeno, strapiena di pomodoro ed una frittura che lasciava desiderare. Il pane abbiamo dovuto chiederlo noi. Successivamente agli antipasti che non avevamo mangiato per fame abbiamo ordinato un piatto di pasta con le vongole ma senza prezzemolo e quando la portano al tavolo il cameriere ci dice che il prezzemolo c'è ma è poco. Infine ordiniamo un sorbetto senza proporci il gusto e lo portano al mandarino non riuscendo a capire con quale frutto sia stato fatto lo abbiamo dovuto chiedere al cameriere quindi si son portati via oltre ai piatti pieni pure il bicchiere del sorbetto. Completiamo il tutto con 2 caffè. Vado alla cassa ed hanno fatto il conto almeno 4 volte perché non sapevano nemmeno cosa avessimo ordinato per una cifra finale di ben 78 euro per 2 antipasti, 1 primo, sorbetto e caffè, dico al proprietario più volte che nel conto ci sia qualche errore e lui insistentemente mi dice di no e che mi stava addirittura facendo un sconto di 8 euro quindi ne ho pagati 70. Non convinta chiedo lo scontrino e vado via. Dopo 45 minuti circa controllo lo scontrino e vedo che avevano battuto un piatto di pasta al salmone, una coca cola che non avevamo che non avevamo ne ordinato e nai arrivati al nostro tavolo, 8 euro 2 sorbetti(prezzo a dir povo esageratissimo) e vergognosamente 2 euro di caffè mai pagati in nessun ristorante a Catania. La risposta del proprietario al telefono è stata "signora in fondo le avevo fatto uno sconto di 8 euro quindi ha pagato solo pochi euro in piu ma se mi dà un iban le faccio un bonifico di 10 euro" sconvolta e schifata le ho detto di dare i soldi che mi aveva fregato ai camerieri e che non ha perso solo una cliente ma almeno 40-50 visto che abbiamo festeggiato abbastanza eventi da loro con la presenza di tantissime persone. Dopo 2 ore il proprietario, resosi conto del comportamento poco carino nei miei confronti mi manda un messaggio scusandosi e volendo rimediare al disagio creatomi ed alla pessima figura che ho fatto con il mio amico. Avrei preferito se mi avessero fregato più soldi ma almeno fare una bella figura invece nell'uno nell'altro....
