Da Zio Peppe trattoria pizzeria — Restaurant in Ceglie Messapica

Friendly family business, yet it hurts to write that we were left unsatisfied. While the atmosphere was inviting, we found the food to be well below Italian standards. The dishes lacked the flavor we were hoping for and the presentation felt somewhat uninspired. There was also a miscommunication with our order, as we received three antipasti instead of one, which was unexpected. When we gave our feedback on it, the waiter explained that it was easier for the kitchen.

All in all, the quality of the different ingredients felt like cheap supermarket food, leading to e.g. the pizza tasting like the quality you'd expect at a pizza joint. The toppings were undercooked and lacked taste. The antipasto with fried zucchini was greasy and really nothing special.

Despite our appreciation for the hospitality, we left feeling unsatisfied and felt that the experience was too pricey (the antipasti alone cost us €32). The quality for sure did not meet the price. For an authentic Italian pizza experience, we recommend going elsewhere.

At the end we thought about giving our feedback to the manager, but there seems to be so many things to improve and we observed him trying to charm other seemingly unsatisfied customers, looking for excuses and not honestly listening to what they were saying. We just wanted to...

We spent nearly 2 weeks in Italy and this was our favorite and most special meal. It was completely unexpected, as we casually stopped in for lunch to have pizza, only to learn pizza is only served for dinner in Puglia! The owner showed us the menu and invited us in as they brought our wine and many dishes to our table - all stunning and delicious. It felt like they had welcomed us into their home! We can’t say enough about how perfect this all was - from the cured meats, cheese, pasta and fish to the strawberry cake and wine....

The random choice of restaurant turned out to be the best culinary experience of the trip. Nine people were warmly welcomed and treated to dishes made from local ingredients. Each course was more delicious than the last. We definitely recommend this place! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
