Il Fico — Restaurant in Ceglie Messapica

Highly recommended! This little bar/restaurant with a terrace in the evening sun just off the town’s main square is a gem. We asked if we could have a drink when they hadn’t formally opened yet for the evening and we were graciously accommodated. The kitchen wasn’t open yet but they offered a selection of antipasti which were AMAZING! Beautiful cheeses, meat and squid, fresh artichoke, grilled eggplant, croquettes, bruschetta, a fantastic dish of melted cheese with fungi, and much more. Upon the recommendation of a local Italian, we decided to try out Il Fico, considering its high Google review rating. However, our experience was different, and we felt like we wasted our money. Unfortunately, we were quite dissatisfied with the chef's skills. Whether the chef was professionally trained or self-taught didn't matter much to us, but the dishes they served were simply not enjoyable. Fritto Misto was so bad. The food was as expected. Not good and not bad. After ordering the food, it took a long time before it arrived. And what arrived, was not what we ordered. One person had to wait for a long time before the ordered food arrived. The room was extremely noisy and it made it impossible to have a normal conversation.
