Ristorante Pizzeria Maffei — Restaurant in Comunità Alto Garda e Ledro

We arrived to this place with high expectations due to the reviews and the atmosphere. The menu looked appealing and the place is charming and cozy in the very heart of Riva del Garda. Also the personal was friendly. Unfortunately, we didn't have a good experience with the food. I don't know if that happens often, but in any case, we weren't lucky. We ordered truffled pasta al uovo, grilled veggies as side dish and a pizza quattro stagioni. The pizza was correct and I wouldn't discourage anyone from ordering it. The problem were the other 2 dishes, mainly the vegetables: the pasta was not well cooked and the veggies were not fresh. Maybe the product was fresh, but it was cold and definitely cooked some hours ago, so we couldn't finish the dish. As we were asked about our satisfaction, we pointed specifically the problem with the veggies. There was no solution to it, but it was ok because we could have mentioned it before. The service was really fast and, as said, the personal was friendly. Terrible experience. I do not recommend this place. The staff was very unengaged and showed no interest in the customers. We had a table in the outdoor area when a heavy rainstorm began. We were with two small children, and we all got soaked—including our food. No one from the staff paid any attention to us or offered any help. The only smile we saw was when we approached the bar ourselves to pay the bill—at full price, of course.

As for the food—based on what little we managed to taste—it was average at best. We’ve had much better meals at other restaurants in the area, where the food was far more flavorful and the staff noticeably friendlier and more attentive.

Added in response to the restaurant’s apply: I did not post the same review twice. My husband was with me, and he also had the right to express his opinion. Your “sincere apologies” don’t seem sincere in light of the rest of your message. So let me repeat once again: for about 20–30 minutes, no member of staff approached us, asked if we needed anything, or offered the possibility to dine inside. Food was very good, especially the seafood platter antipasto and the pistachio pasta!

But what made this a 5 star review for me was the service.

As I’m traveling with my wife and 4 month baby, I had to step away from the table for 20 minutes to help my baby fall asleep, when I came back the waiter took my plate of cold, leftover pasta, brought it to the kitchen and they reheated and rearranged the whole plate for me! It came back warm and delicious looking again. I’m speechless, it was such a nice thing to do and I finished my meal so happy!
