Ristorante Vapore — Restaurant in Faggeto Lario

I think they try to hard with the menu and should stick to simply fresh italian, and I got a sense a lot of their offering is not fresh food. I had the pumpkin pana cotta with a crisp of cabbage to start, it was very nice. My partners tuna starter was fried and very very oily. The venison stew was tasty but needed perhaps some herbs or a vegetable to freshen up the heaviness and the pasta with beet and duck was almost inedible, and probably one of the worst dishes I’ve ever had a restaurant. Chewy duck and plain pasta with no sauce and pre cooked beet diced on top…the server was doing a great job with many tables. It was cold, so we sat inside, which was pleasant enough but felt a bit dated. Our bill was just under 50pp for a starter and main and sparkling water, no dessert or wine. Definitely a pretentious place. I am a solo traveller in northern italy in business trip and I decided to take a detour at the Como Lake. Dinner by the lake seemed a great idea. Unfortunately the experience was not as expected. While 2waiters were very nice, the one assigned to my table was pretty much ignoring me. Anyhow let's talk food. I had a glass of prosecco, some sparkling water and I went for the grilled lake fish with a side of spinach. Fish was dry and overcooked, spinach were fine. After the meal I was offered dessert, I asked for the house cake (in the list) and the waiter looked at me like I was asking for caviar and chocolate. I got tiramisu instead. We had a great experience at the Ristorante. Service was very attentive of our needs with a small baby. They provided a high chair and many little attentions throughout the meal, like a free plate of snacks to accompany our drinks (on top of the usual service of bread/cover). The terrace was very romantic with views on the lake.

The food itself was pretty good - just don’t expect Michelin star cooking. The prices were also very fair, especially when compared to D-Lounge next door (where we paid almost twice the price for a meal of lesser quality than Vapore). Overall, we thought this was the better choice to dine in...
