As a preface, I have great respect for working people and small businesses, and as such I am in no way inclined to leave negative reviews. My experience with the owner of O’ mare mio in Fiuggi, however, was outrageous to the extent that I feel compelled to share with the public.Never in my life have I encountered such brazen rudeness and hostility from someone whose business I was patronizing, and I encourage anyone with a distaste for bullies to stay far from this place.
Here is what happened. I would place my hand on any sacred text and put this on record as the pure and unedited truth:
My wife, aunt, and I were greeted by a waitress (a sweetheart and the one redeeming element of the place).
Each of us ordered an entrée and side salad.
The entrées arrived, along with my wife’s salad and my aunt’s salad. My salad did not arrive, so I assumed the kitchen forgot it or the waitress didn’t hear me. No big deal, I thought, and proceeded to eat.
I was still hungry after finishing my entrée, so I ordered fries.
As I was finishing said fries, the salad arrived. I politely told the waitress that I no longer wanted it, given that the other salads had arrived approximately twenty minutes earlier, and the fries were meant to be in lieu of it. The waitress, per usual, was gracious and quickly took the salad back.
Moments later, the owner came out, asking about the salad in an acrid and confrontational tone. I began explaining myself, but, as his level of hostility was rapidly increasing, I quickly told him that he should bring the salad back.
At this point, all of us feeling fairly shaken by the owner’s aggressiveness, I stepped out of the restaurant to take a phone call.
By the time I went back inside I had decided to explain to him that although I would accept the salad, it had arrived twenty minutes after the others, which was why I assumed it was lost and ordered the fried instead. With new, brazen hostility, he proceeded to insist that I had ordered the salad after I had ordered the fries. This was a pure and boldfaced lie; groundless, baseless, made up out of thin air. After a fruitless and absurd back-and-forth about the damn salad,I escorted my aunt, who suffers from an extremely serious heart condition, out of the restaurant, as she was getting upset and we worried that the incident could provoke an episode.
My wife remained back to pay the bill (untouched salad included) and, frankly, to give this horrible man a piece of her mind. When she exited the restaurant, she informed me that the owner told her we were lying about my aunt’s heart condition (in order to justify our having rudely left without saying goodbye!), just as we were lying about the time the salad was ordered.
I know it is only a salad. I don’t care about the damn five euros as much as the owner seems to. My problem is that I loathe bullies, and that exactly what the owner of this restaurant is. He is arrogant and confrontational; he has a bad attitude and a worse temper. I think a keen observer could infer as much even from an uneventful, ten second exchange with the tall man with gray hair at O’ mare mio.
Say no to bullies, fellow diners, there are plenty of good restaurants run by good...
Read moreAfter I have read the reviews I expected much more than what was offered. Since I am living in Sicily I have some experience with fish. The positive experience was that the fish was fresh. The negative experience was that the cook was extremely economical with quality provided. I ordered shrimps from Mazara . I received five tiny shrimps. I ordered a risotto frutti di mare. The risotto had 3 mussels and 2 calms and one tiny scampi. The service was very average and little attentive. Overall not to come back or suggest to people who understand...
