Osteria Il Gatto & La Volpe — Restaurant in Formia

This place has some decent feedback and was also recommended by our holiday home host. So after strolling around in Formia we came here for lunch.

It was a pretty hot day and we took a seat outside in the back (or front...depends where you walk in). There were only a few tables...it was well after lunchtime, but luckily the kitchen still open.

Service was nice and friendly, brought our dog some water even. Food took a while to arrive, but we were on vacation...so, no rush.

We ordered two glasses of white wine, the Seafood Gnocchi and Pasta with Sea Snails.

White wine was fine. The Gnocchi had just the right bite and the broth was really tasty. A good meal. The Pasta with Snails were also a good choice, maybe not for a seafood beginner, but my wife enjoyed it very much. Good pasta - good flavour.

All in all this restaurant is a good choice. Not among the very top on this vacation, but still a very good choice. Prices were...

Siamo stati in questo ristorante l'8 agosto a cena La motivazione di questi punteggi così bassi è dovuta da vari fattori: Il personale inizialmente attento e cordiale si è mostrato nel corso della serata fin troppo presente, arrivando ad essere fastidioso e poco piacevole I primi, in particolare la pasta cacio e pepe con i gamberi purtroppo è stata davvero una delusione (su 4 persone è stata presa da 3 quindi ha avuto un'impatto notevole sull'esperienza culinaria) perché era una normale cacio e pepe (anche abbastanza stucchevole, poco equilibrio tra gli ingredienti e la quantità degli elementi che la compongono) con due e dico due di numero gamberetti (davvero piccoli) fritti ancora da pulire. Quindi pesce inesistente e pasta stomachevole. La cosa più divertente è che lo stesso cameriere, dopo una richiesta da parte nostra di avere i gamberi cotti e non crudi, ci aveva confermato che sarebbero stati almeno 3, il costo del piatto è di 15-16 euro, non ricordo di preciso. Aggiugo che a fine cena la mia fidanzata non si è sentita bene. I secondi, in particolare il fritto di pesce, era composto prevalentemente da alici (quindi pesce dal costo molto basso) a differenza delle triglie, meluzzetti e gamberi, 1 ciascuno, anche qui qualità-prezzo non accettabile. Ovviamente dopo avere esposto le problematiche al titolare durante il conto, in particolare dei primi, la risposta è stata che lo chef decide le quantità per dare equilibrio al piatto e che la prossima volta se il pesce ci sembrava poco potevamo chiedere un'aggiunta, lascio a voi i commenti. Conto totale 218 euro purtroppo sprecati, fate...

Per la maggior parte il cibo era buono e fresco. Il prezzo qualità era giusto, 55€ a testa, ma il servizio è stato sorprendentemente mediocre. Eravamo 6 persone e uno di noi non ha mai ricevuto il suo piatto principale. Dopo averlo segnalato due volte, il piatto con una porzione estremamente piccola è arrivato al tavolo dopo che tutti avevano già finito il loro pasto. Il co-proprietario/manager è venuto al tavolo dando la scusa al gentile cameriera per quest disguida e contrattempo, quando in realtà era l'altro co-proprietario a prendere l'ordine. Mi sarei aspettato di più dal proprietario. Avremmo dovuto dire qualcosa, ma non volevamo fare una scenata o rovinare la serata. Peccato! Non pensiamo di tornarci presto!

For the most part the food was good & fresh. The price quality was fair 55€ per head however the service was surprisingly mediocre. We were 6 people and one of us never got his main course. After having flagged it twice, the dish with an extremely small portion arrived at the table after everyone else in the party finished their meal. The co owner/manager came to the table blaming the kind and pleasant server about this mishap, when actually it was the other co owner to take the order. I would have expected more from the owner. We should have said something but we did not want to make a scene or ruin the evening. We don’t think we will go back...
