Cantine Del Gavi — Restaurant in Gavi

Good food but awful service. There are people who enjoy hospitality and those that run restaurants simply for business. Le Cantine strikes me as the latter. I believe we were "unfortunate" by having a young, new, fairly untrained new staff member. However, we then spoke to the son of the owner and unfortunately same bad service.

No menu explanation Not asking if we'd have any allergies No asking us for extra wine. We had 2 glasses but only because we asked Stingy with wine, it costing EUR9 per glass, you'd expect a bit more Not asking throughout if everything was ok or any for of check-in Etc etc

Unfortunately amongst locals this place is know for bad service. I am stunned they are still booked and that so many people pay EUR 65 (without wine) to accept poor service.

If this place were to train there staff well, smile (smiles are free and can make guests feel more welcome). and study some basics of higher end hospitality it could be a great place. For now: would...

I am back home in California remembering our visit from May 2024. I absolutely love Gavi and have been there twice in the past 3 years.We dined at Cantine Del Gavi celebrating my sons birthday and mothers day. It was such a memorable experience and I realized I forgot to do a review with all the traveling we did in Italy last year. The service was phenomenal, food was outstanding and perfect wine was recommended. The staff and experience provided made a lasting impression on my son his fiancé and I. Exceptional place! The food was one of the best we had on our two month trip in Italy. Amazing atmosphere, being located in a calm and beautifully decorated garden. Lastly, against earlier reviews that I read here, our service was perfect. Very attentive, explained the food in detail and friendly. Bonus: I asked before the dinner for a spritz, which they apologized they couldn’t do as they didn’t do aperitivo, but half way through the menu the waiter still brought one on the house.
