Art Cafè — Restaurant in La Maddalena

We stopped at Art Cafe for our lunch on our visit to La Maddelena because it looked fairly busy. It had some comfortable looking seating at the front adjoining the street and was covered, and as we'd had a little rain about an hour before it looked a good place to sit, to eat, to have a drink and to watch the world go by for an hour or so.

The menu was fairly basic. We chose a pasta dish and a lasagne, both arrived relatively quickly and I'd hazard a guess and say that they were both 'ping' meals, but that said they were both tasty, although the bottom of the lasagne appeared burnt.

I chose the Nespresso Martini, without doubt my favourite cocktail, whilst my wife had an Aperolspritz, which is almost a must in Italy.

But the waitress wasn't very happy at all, she was either having a bad day or was perhaps taking her service tips from the boutique opposite (see photo, although I jest). She slammed down the paper mats, which I didn't think was really possible, and our cutlery. I don't think that she smiled once whilst we were there and it really felt like we were inconveniencing her with her conversations with other diners, possibly regulars, so it wasn't very friendly. That said the Martini was smooth and the coffee was strong, it was a really nice drink.

The bar offered a good range of gins and has so much potential, but the drinks and the meals really need to be served...

Ore 24:00 circa di martedì 13 Agosto A La Maddalena.(SS) Due persone, ci sediamo al tavolo e ordiniamo rispettivamente 1 mirto bianco ed un Hugo. Successivamente si decide di fare il bis. Tutto liscio e nulla da ridire, ad un certo punto uno dei dipendenti del bar mentre stava pulendo la zona esterna del locale con il tubo dell’acqua, ci schizza intenzionalmente in direzione nostra dicendoci “che era la chiamata d’avviso della chiusura” (secondo il modo di ragionare di questo lavoratore)e che stavano chiudendo facendoci comunque arrivare ingenti schizzi d’acqua. Una totale mancanza di rispetto verso il cliente. Facendogli capire in maniera educata che l’italiano lo capiamo ma “..l’acquese….” no….,.lui ci risponde che parla un italiano chiarissimo….situazione molto paradossale. Entrando dentro al momento del conto, chiediamo se gli schizzi volontari che ci sono arrivati erano compresi nel prezzo. Chi in quel momento ci risponde stando alla cassa del bar ci riferisce che è il titolare che sta pulendo di fuori con l’cqua. Subito dopo, il proprietario del locale inizia ad offenderci dandoci dei “deficenti” e urlando come un disperato…..ho qualche dubbio sul suo stato psicofisico dato che sembrava anche che avesse assunto qualcosa per essere così cafone nei confronti dei clienti. Lui ha fatto degenerare la situazione non realizzando comunque il suo torto e la sua prepotenza. Solamente grazie all intervento dello staff del locale e per la nostra freddezza non si è arrivati alle mani…ma c erano tutte le carte per parlare di denuncia alle forze dell ordine. Questo episodio c è costato comunque 27€. Mai successa una cosa del genere in tutta la mia vita. Sconsigliato a clienti e anche a chi vi cerca lavoro, non lavorate...

Cocktails are good, but I think the pasta is frozen and heated. We ordered three pasta dishes with either cream sauce or tomato sauce and all three arrived with the impression that the servings were out of a container and not cookware in the kitchen.

Very cool indoor and outdoor atmosphere and seating though, good restrooms and great service. At the corner of two walking streets coming together so the people watching...
