Our friends invited my husband and me for dinner at a wonderful restaurant in La Maddalena called Trattoria Vecchia Ilva.
We were seated immediately, and before the menu even arrived, we were toasting to a great night with Aperol Spritzes in hand on the house as the owner, Angelo, remembered our friends who were there a couple weeks ago. Angelo came out to greet us and answered questions about the menu items as he took our orders.
We started off with eggplant, mussels, and a charcuterie plate with local cheeses to share. For our individual meals, we had Sardinian culurgiones in an orange butter sauce 🤌🏼, a delicious pasta with tuna, best filet mignon I’ve had in Italy, and seared tuna. Read moreFantastic service, and great food! If you're looking for a nice change from your standard Italian food while on the beautiful archipelago of La Maddalena - come here for a nice escape. Still there are a couple things that need improving; Firstly, the service is a bit chaotic which may lead to delays and mistakes like having a dirty fork on your table. Secondly, some dishes lack thought - such as the bouillabaisse which, while tasty, needs a fish with minimal bones and an overall more modern take. . I think Trattoria Vecchia is walking a thin line between decent traditional - and fancy, elevated cuisine. It may be helpful if they made the decision which path to follow and adjusted...
