Locanda Garzelli — Restaurant in Livorno

This is the place where I want to spend few days every year. :-) Restaurant is fabulous. One of the best we tried in Italy. You are sitting on nice terrace with sea-view and glass of wine. And they let you enjoy great ingredients freshly prepared in modern style. Fresh fish, fresh pastry, fresh home-made pasta, fresh home-made ice-cream. And their tasting menus are like excursion to secret gems of Italian cuisine with waiter acting as attentive guide always explaining what that meal is about. (We suspect when we booked in advance table for tasting menu dinner they made sure they had English speaking waiter that evening serving us. As he was not there the other days. I take this as another evidence of great care.:-)) I am glad we discovered this place and I look forward to our next visit here. When you stay here overnight rather book the room oriented to the sea. They are bigger, airy, with terrace and above all with great sea-view and sea-sound. Worth the premium in price. Rooms oriented to the land...

Bisogna sapere che la doccia è a vista accanto al letto e non tutti gradiscono... Io ero da sola quindi non ho avuto problemi. Il bagno senza finestra include water e bidet. Tutto sommato la camera è carina, arredata in stile shabby, molto piccola, essendo una matrimoniale. Io non posso mangiare latticini e per me a colazione non c'era nulla (già fatto presente la sera prima a cena). Mi hanno dato del pane a parte su cui ho messo la marmellata. Poi ho chiesto un latte di soia e invece mi è arrivato latte normale, me ne sono accorta dopo averlo assaggiato, la ragazza me l'ha prontamente sostituito, ma anche quella piccola quantità mi ha fatto sentire male in seguito. La cifra che ho pagato è decisamente alta se consideriamo oltretutto che ero assolutamente fuori stagione (metà aprile). Anche i prezzi del frigobar esorbitanti. Non ci sono spazi comuni fruibili all'interno della struttura (il ristorante, ma se ci mangi). Il resto dell'hotel è ristrutturato con gusto discutibile considerando che si tratta di una villa antica. La vista è molto bella, sul mare, ma a causa delle alte luci all'interno, dopo il tramonto non si vede più nulla. Il cibo è di qualità e cucinato abbastanza bene, i ragazzi carini. La porzione dell'antipasto era molto scarsa, quella del secondo era giusta, il dolce era RIDICOLO. Parliamo comunque di una fascia media, pagata a cifre da ristorante stellato!!! L'altro problema è stato che dopo aver fatto presente più volte che non potevo mangiare latticini ad un certo punto mi è arrivata una cosa con lo yogurt. Oltretutto sono certa che in altre portate ce ne fossero, motivo per cui la notte non sono stata bene. Una cosa che ho trovato assolutamente sgradevole è stato che alle 10:30 (al ristorante ero rimasta solo io e avevo iniziato a mangiare alle 9:00) hanno bruscamente interrotto la musica e cominciato ad apparecchiare per la colazione. Avevo appena ordinato un amaro, che mi è andato di traverso. È stato il soggiorno e la cena di gran lunga PIÙ CARI della mia vacanza, tenendo presente che venivo da Portofino e costiera ligure ed avevo soggiornato quasi sempre in 4 stelle, e pochi giorni prima sull'Argentario (sempre in 4 stelle superior, nemmeno lontanamente paragonabile a questa struttura). Details, details, details... If you like thought through places: This is it. This is it. This is it! No for a cheap eat, but worth every cent. At the sea, in a wonderful house. Great terrace, but the interior rooms bring the full Toscana eleganza you were looking for. From the plates to the endless champagne menu to the coperto, glasses, toilettes... everything is perfect. Flawless bilingual service, great and solid recommendations. And well, the food just nails it, best pasta I've eaten after weeks of travelling through Tuscany and Lazio. Sadly didn't have the time to check out their hotel and accommodation skills. But will definitely return in the future to experience this part of this amazing and truely...
