We spontaneously looked on Google tonight for places to eat in Maori Italy. Having heard that the some locals can be a bit funny with random tourists showing up asking for tables without a reservation, we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to be seated for a light and early dinner.
My husband had the lasange with a Peroni and I shared the gnocchi with my toddler with a Lemon Spritz. The best Lemon Spritz I’ve had so far in Italy. The owner, who is so Italian and such a vibe puts sorbet in it! I will forever dream of this drink. It’s worth going just for that. I will have to go back before we leave. The pasta tasted fresh and the portion sizes were large! I do think the fact that they had 5-6 options on the menu was a good thing. It had a small selection that catered to near enough everyone and it obviously depended on what they had and made that day. The atmosphere was family and locals.. lovely to see and hear. I do understand that they can be a bit selective on who they allow in but it’s definitely worth a visit. Beautiful food. Lovely scenery by the end of the port alongside locals who just appreciate good food. Go! The price range is €50 for 2 large dishes and 3 drinks. Not bad considering and with that it’s worth every...
Read moreOne of the best places to eat in Maiori...if not the entire Amalfi Coast. This is a must eat location for anyone who appreciates the highest level of quality in the dishes they are going to eat. Right on the boardwalk it's a small unassuming location that you might simply walk by and not even consider popping in to if you didn't know any better. We went to Chiosco's twice in our time in Maiori and both times were exceptional. We enjoyed pasta with clams and a squid and shrimp past dish with a creamy lemon dressing that was simply devine. Also had the traditional spaghetti and meatballs and again I was blown away by the simple elegance of flavours and textures. The owner makes his own beer (which is absolutely irresistible) and limoncello (which, by the way is the best tasting limoncello on the coast) and makes you feel like you are family. He greets you with a big smile, sits beside you and reads off the daily menu as it changes based on the the catch of the day. You can't help but see and feel his passion for being a restaurateur. One of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had in my life, no exaggeration. Don't miss your opportunity to experience the delights...
Read moreFranco, his wife and family provide the most incredibly friendly, warm, professional and customer centred service I have experienced anywhere.
To say the food is wonderful is to do it a disservice - the taste of fresh fennel, fresh buffalo mozzarella and expertly cooked pasta mixed with contrasting textures of beef and buffalo meat, treated to an other worldly Italian sauce, is, seriously, beyond words. I was introduced to tastes, in fresh herbs and spices, that I didn't know existed.
Aside from the food - and the daily changing menu of complex and clever dishes - Franco's micro brewery beer is a must try. Deliciously refreshing and a large selection - my favourite was the Amalfi lemon flavoured beer, a variation of Belgium wheat beer style.
Franco and his wife clearly work incredibly hard and care deeply about the food and the service they provide to their customers. Franco's humour and his genuine passion for food and beer put chefs and restaurants costing ten times more to shame.
If you don't sample the food, beer and the service here, you'll be depriving yourself of one of the best experiences of Italian food and hospitality on the Amalfi...
