The Path of Lemons in Salerno, Italy is a breathtakingly beautiful trail that winds its way through lush lemon groves and offers stunning views of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The trail, also known as "Sentiero dei Limoni" in Italian, starts in the town of Maiori and ends in the town of Minori, covering a distance of about 3 kilometers.
Walking along the Path of Lemons is a unique experience that allows you to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Amalfi Coast. The trail is lined with terraced lemon groves that have been carefully cultivated for centuries. The scent of fresh lemons fills the air, and the bright yellow fruit hangs like jewels from the trees.
As you walk, you'll be treated to panoramic views of the coast and the sea. The trail passes through several small villages, including Torre, Erchie, and Ravello, where you can stop for a coffee or a snack and soak up the local atmosphere.
The Path of Lemons is not just a scenic trail, but also a window into the rich history and culture of the Amalfi Coast. Along the way, you'll see ancient buildings, historic churches, and traditional fishing boats, all of which tell the story of this beautiful region.
Whether you're a nature lover, a history buff, or just someone who wants to experience the beauty of the Amalfi Coast, the Path of Lemons is an absolute must-visit...
Read moreA breathtakinly beautiful walk that provides incredible views of the Amalfi coast over Maiori and Minori. The lemons, grown in private gardens and terraces, are impressive in terms of their visible quality and quantity. The opportunities to glimpse wildlife are also impressive - different species of lizards in the grass terraces that line the route.
The walk is probably one of the "must do" things in Maiori and Minori. Almost restores faith in the belief that the best things in life are free!
Depending on your fitness level, the walk can be quite strenuous especially if done in the middle of the day or when the sun is at its most intense. In the cool early evening, the walk is a very different experience and so worth trying then even if the hot walk puts you off. The initial climb up the steps would though, I imagine, be tough for people not in the best health.
There are plenty of drinking water taps on the route - it's easy to refill drinking water bottles for free from these taps.
I've provided photo and map directions on where the walk starts in Maiori.
Once you climb up the Scala Santa (Holy Steps) by the Collegiate of Santa Maria a Mare church, take the Via Vena route at the...
Read moreAs other reviewers have noted – the name is a bit of a misnomer, as there are very few lemons to be seen, though there are some spots where you’ll get great views down to the coast. Most of the walk is between high walls between houses. In hind site, it makes sense that they can’t allow people to wander freely among the private lemon groves. If you’re already staying above the coast – at Ravello, Scala or one of the other hill towns, you’ve already seen these views. I recommend walking from Minori to Agricola Ruocco at the top of the trail, then back down again the same way – no need to continue on to Maiori. The walk from Scala to Minori is more challenging and longer, but also more...
