Came here at opening (7pm) based on good reviews and being within a few blocks of my hotel (Berna). This is a very nice white tablecloth restaurant. I was given a complimentary glass of Prosecco. I ordered the Buffalo Mozzarella and grilled vegetables antipasto (12 euro) which was half a baseball size of fresh, wonderful mozzarella sliced and stacked with grilled vegetables. It was delicious and the presentation was top notch. The complimentary bread was varied and delicious. I skipped the primati and ordered the black-peppered rib eye steak on the bone secondi (25 euros), with a glass of the house red wine (6 euros) and bottle of sparkling water (3 euros). The steak was cooked perfectly and probably 14 oz in size- tender, good sear. It came with grilled potatoes. I had as espresso after my meal and they provided TWO complimentary shots of almost frozen limoncello, which was the best tasting after dinner liquor I have ever had (even offered a 3rd, which I refused). Total bill came to 53 euros. This was one of the best dinners I had on my 15 day trip in Italy. They also have typical Milanese items on the menu like Veal Ossobuco (although it is on mashed potatoes with truffles, rather than the typical saffron risotto) and Cotoletta ala Milanese (breaded veal cutlet) but I avoided since I am on a low-carb (keto) diet. Highly...
Read moreAntica Osteria Cavallini offers a delightful dining experience in Milano with a diverse menu featuring local dishes ranging from fish to meat and pasta. While the food was generally good, some dishes lacked sufficient herbs, yet the standout was the excellent pasta and the delectable tiramisu for dessert. The restaurant boasts an extensive wine selection, conveniently available in both normal and half-sized bottles, though obtaining just a glass from the menu proved challenging. Opting for a small bottle turned out to be the perfect solution.
The ambiance is charming, with ample space indoors and a lovely winter and summer garden, where we enjoyed our meal. The service was attentive and friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere reminiscent of dining in a special establishment, despite it being a typical restaurant offering local cuisine. It's worth noting that guests are expected to pour their own water, which adds to the casual yet cozy vibe.
Prices are slightly higher than average, but reasonable considering the overall experience. The clientele varies, from business groups to families, and even tourists like ourselves, adding to the restaurant's appeal as a place for everyone to enjoy. In conclusion, Antica Osteria Cavallini is a solid choice for those seeking Italian cuisine. I said solid, there is...
Read moreWe has an amazing dinner here for our first night in Milan. Was booked for us by our concierge and we were delighted to be situated in a charming enclosed garden area (in March) with covered windows and outdoor heating as well as twinkly lights. They have a bigger restaurant space but obviously use the courtyard for its lovely ambience. It was busy on a midweek night.
Service was formal but welcoming. The food was amazing. I had veal milanese which came with a delicious light salad of rocket and tomatoes. Husband had osso bucco with risotto milanese and tiramisu for dessert. These were all great dishes for a first brilliant meal in Italy.
The wine list was fabulous. We chose a sparkling franciacorte.
Will go back if we are ever in this area of Milan again. The seafood looked...
