The service was what can be expected of an establishment such as El Porteno Arena. Good, though nothing special hence 4/5. Though the host was quite cold and did not seem to be interested in his job at all. Perhaps it was not his day so I did not count it in the score given.
The Atmosphere was really nice and fitting for a steakhouse with an Argentine background, really well done.
Friends of mine have recommended this restaurant to me and my partner so we came here with high expectations. To be honest this might have ruined the experience as we were expecting a level of food similar to the Steakhouse ‘Mr Porter’ located in Amsterdam. It was okay in short. Beef tartar was nicely plated, flavour wise not so nice. Too salty, not enough acidity. We also ordered the Empanadas with beef. These were just empanadas, the pricing was fair (€12). Our last starter was “sashimi” style sliced beef with foie gras. Tasty, pretty nice. Following with our main courses, 350g beef skirt from the tenderloin and the tenderloin itself. The Tenderloin was nicely made medium rare as requested. The beef skirt we ordered medium. As skirt in my experience is not the easiest piece of meat to cook evenly all over I can understand that it was somewhat overcooked. Though plating it on a heated plate overcooks it even further which made half of the supposedly tender skirt quite a nut to crack. The tenderloin also partially became more medium to medium/well instead which hasted us to divide it faster than we could eat. Perhaps something for the restaurant to consider in the future. The main dishes are accompanied by 5 different kinds of side dishes which can be found the corresponding list on the menu. I would recommend the pumpkin if you like sweet. The rest was at best mediocre. Potato purée was too salty, the supposed “french fries” which were not frenched were a soft mushy disappointment and the remaining two are at best okay. As it was quite late (23:30) we did not order desert. At this time the restaurant was for 1/3rd occupied.
When asking for the bill they bring the standard flipcase with the bill neatly fitted inside. Accompanied by this giant tower of lollypops which was a first. Tip as much as you are pleased in Italy. I payed by card and wanted to tip in cash as usual, though unfortunately I did not have smaller bills on me and found changing to smallers bills at the cash register too much of a hassle. My first waiter was seemingly Caucasian and balt who gave us good recommendations for the food and the red wine. He had a good and loose attitude and was sincere with his words. The second waiter was seemingly Middle Asian (Indian?) and had a smaller build. He seemed to have not as much working experience as the first waiter as he followed the rules by the book plus his way of speech and moving around. Both putting the effort into their job which I...
Read moreThe restaurant is in classic argentine style. The service is good and the staff is attentive. The wine selection is great, there are argentine wines in all price categories.
atomosphere 5 stars
meat: we ordered a tomahawk medium rare. the meat came medium rare and they cut it nicely at the table. however, they put it on a plate over a tabletop stove and by the time everything was served (with garnishes, etc.) the individual pieces of meat were very fried (well done). unfortunately, the meat was practically inedible. we ate it and then ordered another porterhouse and warned him not to make the same mistake. unfortunately, the next meat came raw and cold. they overcorrected the mistake. unfortunately, we had to return it. however, the chef did an excellent job of correcting the already cut meat (as much as was possible after it was already cut).
in the end we told the restaurant about our experience. unfortunately only the chef and not the manager (my bad I did ask for "chef"). maybe we were just unlucky, but i hope for other guests that they will get the steaks edible in a restaurant that specializes in meat.
the dessert (chocolate cake) had an excellent glaze, but the content is very fattening.
food 4 stars (quality of the meat was not a problem) service 4 stars (everything top except cooking the medium rare steak on the table to a...
