A restaurant that is a piece of Sardinia in Milan We chose this restaurant by sort of voting and reading the various reviews among a group of 6 locations. Six people who finally chose Osteria Caneva. The staff is very helpful and was able to advise us very well. The mise en place is simple, but with good fabric tablecloths and large glasses to better enjoy the wines. As starters, the choice was: Mixed sea of the house (a large dish with many choices both cooked and soused, as well as a small plate with razor scallops and gianchetti gratin), a Mixed raw fish of the house (prawns, tuna, swordfish etc. and a saucer with oysters on ice), a mix of Caneva land (with a selection of cured meats and cheese), a Modicano Sardinian red ox bresaola with artichokes and pecorino cheese, scallops au gratin. First courses: spaghetti with Sardinian smoked eel and mullet roe (fabulous!), Sardinian Culingionis, broad bean puree with chicory. For the second course: Baked sea bass with olives and Vernaccia di Oristano and Mixed grilled fish (exaggerated ... good and tasty). All accompanied by a Ribolla Gialla DOC (Controlled Designation of Origin) by Livio Felluga, a good bottle with 12.5% alcohol that suited everyone's choices well... except one, who chose a Cannonau red wine, and excellent carasau bread. Finally, the desserts... which I was unable to photograph given the speed of the diners to devour them... All in all, a good "Sardinian" dinner at €348.00 (just under €60 per person). To sweeten the bill, they kindly offered us Limoncello (lemon liqueur), Mirto (myrtle berry liqueur) and Grappa Filuferru (typical of the Sardinia region. I think we'll...
Read moreSeeing all the reviews for the mixed raw fish plate made us order it (even if raw fish is not exactly my first choice usually), and I have to admit it, everyone was absolutely right! It's totally worth it. You really need to try it... but what was the star of the menu for us, and it made me wanna cry with all its full flavour, was the sea bream with red onions...can't describe how good that is...wasn't even my plate so I got to have two bites and it will haunt me till I have the opportunity to have it again.
The staff was very friendly and made us feel very welcome!
Regarding the prices, well, it's not cheap, but the prices feel quite reasonable given the quality and the portions.
The only minus that made me remove one star from the atmosphere tbh was the standing smoking area (outside) so close to where we were seated, which I am sure you could avoid if you make a reservation ahead and ask for a seat away from there..we went without one and still we were accommodated, so I am so very grateful even so cause we got to experience the food!
All in all, it's a wonderful place to visit if you happen to...
Read moreI’ll admit I never got the opportunity to experience the cuisine here but I can only comment on the customer service. Went in on a Friday night around 9ish with my gf. Couple in front of us were seated immediately and with the little Italian I understand it seemed that they did not have a reservation. However when it was our turn and the host noticed we were foreigners immediately we were turned away with no response as to how long a wait would be. He didn’t even look around the dining room to see if there were any possible openings. He was also quite cold and rude. After perusing several other of the negative reviews here this doesn’t surprise me. I agree with the prior review which sadly is the experience I’ve gotten from some rude Italians - if they realize you’re not one of them you’re treated as a second class citizen. I’ve traveled the world and this is usually the poor customer service I get once they realize ‘I’m not one of them’. I bet the food is very good here, but by making people who come from afar feel unwelcome makes me not feel wanted…so I would not recommend...
