Avoid, avoid, avoid – better starve than eating here again!

This was our 10th day in Italy – and sadly this was the worst food and eating experience ever! We ended up in this place accidently; I wish we never walked anywhere near the place. Terrible menu with tourist rip off prices due to tourist location. Food was atrocious, pasta was from the supermarket bag and Tuscan pork in white source appeared to be dry minced pork lumped up on top of pasta. Undertrained waiting staff – no disrespect to waiting staff, but this place employed non-Italian staff with lower wage level and no necessary training provided.

All in all quality of food was very disappointing, and it was certainly NOT value for money place! The words “Customer service” are definitely not related to this place. When we spoke to the manager on the way out and explained the situation providing some feedback how disappointing the meal was. In response the manager would want even to listen and constantly tried to interrupt being extremely rude. I was told that this is how it is and I have to pay for what I ordered no matter whether I liked it or not, otherwise she will call the police. As money wasn’t an issue, we’ve paid, but It was an absolutely shocking situation, pathetically unnecessary argument. For such a magical location within medieval castle walls, this restaurant together with the person who is running it with “medieval” logic and life approach, was completely out of order. There was no acknowledgement of errors in misleading translation or any willing to listen or understand customers’ needs or attempts to make customers’ experience better in the future. Such a shame, as this place could be possibly taken by another TRUE eatery place that deserves this magic location and serves fantastic TRUE Italian food.

We have passed our comments regarding this restaurant to our wonderful b&b hosts where we stopped to ensure people are advised to cross out this place in advance from their eating...

I have just left this restaurant after having the police called on me and my family! This has never happened to me before so I thought the experience was worthy of a review since it's all about sharing new experiences!

We were looking for a table in Monteriggiani and most of the restaurants were fully booked. What that normally means is that you end up having to eat in the bad places. Our fault for not booking ahead I suppose.

Word of advice...book ahead! Otherwise you might end up in the worst restaurant in Italy like we did.

I won't go through loads of boring details but in summary; our starters took over an hour to arrive and when they did one of them was completely cold in the middle.

We then waited for a very long time for the mains. At a couple of points during the meal we even thought about paying for the couple of things they had managed to bring out and leave the restaurant. While we were having this discussion they did start trickling out the mains so we decided to stay put.

To be fair, most of us really did like the mains but the problem arose when we got the bill and found a €35 service charge. We felt that the service had been some of the worst we had ever received so we said that we objected to paying it. They weren't happy with that idea and it lead to an argument which then led to someone from the restaurant calling the police. So there we were; on holiday, in a restaurant, having our bill mediated by a local police officer.

It was a bit surreal but also embarrassing and completely unnecessary.

Anyway, things were resolved by agreeing that we should pay for half the service fee, which we still felt was excessive, bearing in mind that it took an hour to get diced tomatoes on toast delivered to our table.

If you're reading this, do yourself a favour and book a different restaurant ahead of time. The town is amazing and the other...

Staff was very friendly, also they offred water for our dog wich was very friendly. However there are a few things that were negative. They charge cuperto! 5 euro we paid for nothing! And on the contrary like some people say you do not pay it everywhere in italy. It was the first time we paid it in tuscany and it is a total rip-off in my opinion. Second the food was way to expensive for what you get. I paid 13 euro for a pasta that was just pasta, cheese and pepper. Not even meat or something. It maybe cost them 2 euro to make this dish. Also they charge like 23 euro for a simple steak dish, wich is way to much. Also the portions a really small for what you pay. I have eaten better in the lunch garden price quality wise then here. ( speaking for my dish) The lasagne my wife got was very good an a lot. If you want to eat here this is a good option i think. It was very big and tastefull. The rest is way to expensive. Also 5 euro for the most basic wine is a lot. If you want to eat good price quality in italy you better find a place where the locals eat in an small village. Do not eat in like these toeristic village type of...

What a beautiful place this was. In the tiny medieval hill town of Monteriggioni, just passed the main square - we were directed there by a flyer offering to cover €2 of our parking fee for eating there. I must say the food was lovely, and all three of us enjoyed the meal. The size of the lasagna was a little small and there was nothing else to garnish it (small salad perhaps?), but the taste / quality was excellent. My only other gripe was that my meal could have been a bit warmer, but it wasn’t too cold to eat. The restaurant also offers the opportunity to watch them make the pasta on site and, whilst we missed the main demonstration, the manager was happy to talk about the process and answer my questions. I had spaghetti which was ‘I pici’ and found out it was made of just flour and water - no egg. This dated back to WW2 when people didn’t have eggs to cook with. The spaghetti was thicker than normal but beautifully cooked. Prices were reasonable and I would recommend a visit. Thanks.

We had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant, thanks to a recommendation from Tommaso, who is well known by the establishment. My fiance and I, visiting from the US, must say that both the service and food exceeded our expectations. It's evident that this is a well-run family business, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience. Our waiter, Guiseppe, was outstanding and incredibly helpful when it came to placing our order. Tommaso's recommendation to use olive oil over the bread and sprinkle with salt added a delightful touch to our meal. We also took his advice to try the Pici Cacio E Pepe, and it was a great recommendation. Not to mention, the prices were very reasonable. What truly added to the experience was witnessing them making the pasta as you walk in - it was fantastic and added an authentic touch to the meal. A memorable dining experience all around!

I understand the lack of competition makes for a good excuse to pump the price a bit, but I think for the delivered quality and portion size this level is inexcusable. 2,50 cover charge per person and 16 euros for wild boar stew. 5 euros for a side of baked potatoes? Please. A portion that covers a third of the plate at best. I've eaten at many Italian restaurants and this is by far the smallest morsel I've been presented with. Meat was a bit tough and didn't remind me of the other stews I've had whilst touring Italy. I would recommend looking elsewhere, even though you have around three restaurants to choose from. That's the only reason a place like this survives.
