A local whom I recently met recommended that I dine at this hotel's beautiful restaurant. Since Montone was some 45-50 minutes away from Perugia/Assisi, I was a little sceptical about whether it was worth the drive. After spending my last night in Umbria in this lovely place, my doubts evaporated. ||I had the most pleasant dinner in La Locanda del Capitano. Each dish was absolutely amazing! I could taste the texture of the fresh pasta served, the lamb chops were tender and truly delicious. I'm very particular about how gamy my lamb chops taste. Most of the time, they are either too gamy or the chef would try to mask the taste by using an overwhelming amount of herbs. These lamb chops were not like that at all. The delightful balance of extra virgin olive oil, thyme and salt enhanced the taste of the lamb. They were the best lamp chops I've ever tasted, even better than the ones I grill myself.||Just when I bought my meal couldn't be better, the tiramisu proved me wrong. As shown in the pictures, this tiramisu was uniquely split into two halves. The espresso, cream and chocolate shavings were in one jar, while the marscapone and savoiardi were in another. I'm not sure why it was done that way but this deconstruction worked marvellously. Delizioso! ||I believe that all this would not have been possible if not for the passion and dedication of the owner of the establishment, Chef Giancarlo Polito. Through my conversations with Giancarlo, it was clear that he is meticulous in his work and in every dish he creates. He places great emphasis on fresh, quality produce, and sources from local farmers. Giancarlo's passion, however, is most evident in his love for wine. A true connoisseur, he will readily share with you his opinions on each bottle of wine that his restaurant serves and even recommend a suitable pairing with your dinner. The wine I ordered, which was recommended by Giancarlo, was really refined. Bellissimo! ||As for the hotel, all I know is that there are 10 rooms. Giancarlo explained that he would like to personalise his service for each of his guests, and therefore, kept the size of his hotel small. As I had already made other plans, I didn't get to stay here during this visit. I'll definitely return here when I visit Umbria again.||To sum up, if you're looking for the experience of a big Italian city, such as Florence and Rome, you probably will not enjoy Montone. However, if you want to experience the beauty and charm of a small Italian town, if you want personalised service from a passionate and dedicated staff, and if you want to taste excellent dishes crafted from quality, locally sourced produce, look no further than La Locanda del Capitano. I assure you that you will...

Read moreMy husband and I discovered La Locanda Del Capitano on a day visit to Montone. Taken by the beauty of the town we sought out a hotel so that we could stay over. Giancarlo and his wife Carma welcomed us and advised us of the local festival Donazione Della Santa Spina, they even organised us tickets for the local event. ||||The hotel is picturesque, a multi layered courtyard off of the main square. The room with balcony had wonderful views over the terracotta and the valley below. A beautiful sunset. The hotel decor is pure Italian, just what we wanted a true Italian experience. ||||The hotel is wonderful but it is the owners who perfect it! They could not have been more accommodating, from advising us on local events, recommending food and wine and helping us when we broke down!||||Not only were they amazing their ethos was felt through the staff, the twin brothers and Martina who all went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Don’t miss out on staying at this hotel, as you get a true taste of Italian hospitality. The highlight of our two weeks. We have promised ourselves we will return.||||We notice that that people have commented breakfast. We found this to be more than adequate. A typical Italian breakfast, a choice of freshly baked...
