We are in Montone for just one night. We wanted to visit this llittle town. I am traveling with a friend. I am Italian, but been living overseas for 25 years. Is it considered "weird" to see two women dining together? I actually saw an other review where they felt ignored. That is how we felt. But we saw the difference in how other tables were treated. We were not offered the special dish on the house, the panzanella. All other tables were. We had to wait for ever to get served water after we got seated. We didn't even get offered bread, which was offered to all the other tables with the panzanella. I asked for bread after I got the first course, and I was looked at all weird. We finally were able to get their attention and place our order. The first course, was fine. I got tagliatelle al ragu'. The paste was fine. My friend got the same but gluten free. She wasn't sure it was cooked in a different water pot than the regular pasta because she started having some reaction (since she is celiac). Then we got the second course. I got the cinghiale, which was a bit dry and salty, and my friend got the steak, which she asked to be medium, but was actually medium rare, more on the rare side. We waited and waited for someone to get our plates away and finally get our check and get out of there. But it wasn't happening. We got the attention of one of the waiters and asked if we paid at the table or at the front desk. He said someone will come at the table. Someone came and finally asked if we were unhappy with the food because my friend hadn't finished the steak. We said all was fine and wanted to pay. We were not asked if we wanted dessert. Finally we were brought the bill. It took still more waiting for him to come back and get the check, but we were told that if we wanted to use the card, we had to get up and pay at the desk because they were having problems with the signal. Honestly, we both felt we were treated differently because we were two women dining alone without the presence of a man. I assure you we are both married to man and are just traveling together. But even if we weren't!!! There are plenty of other places to try with probably better food and better service and I would...

Read moreBeautiful view, nice wine, good service. BUT the food is horrific. Menu clearly devised by someone with no palate. It’s been many years since I’ve been literally unable to finish a plate of food, but that happened twice during this meal, and my dining companions felt the same. Such a shame. We came here three years ago and ate beautiful Umbrian fare. The chef must have changed as this was frankly a woeful meal. One of the worst I’ve eaten in years - and not...
