Full disclosure. We came across this place by accident. Stopped at a nearby restaurant in Nicolosi and the cigarette smoke was intolerable, so we moved on. Found this place in Nicolosi while in the car and picked it as it had outdoor seating. We did not want to take a second chance.... We arrived and the charming owner invited us inside. At first blush, the interior is simple and homey. We were not yet quite sure what we were going to experience here. Our Italian is not very strong, but our host could not have been more friendly and accommodating. We asked for menus, but we were informed that it is a set menu and it changes daily. Alright, time to roll the dice. To start, antipasto consisting of fruit, cherry tomatoes, prosciutto drizzled with balsamic reduction, mozzarella buffalo, fresh ricotta, the absolute best mushrooms I have ever eaten ( I like mushrooms, but these were simply killer...), bread and olive oil from olives grown in the side of Mount Etna, and pickled onions, artichokes, carrots and celery. I am a huge fan of pickled pearl onions, all were very good! It was a lot, but time for pasta! We shared a platter of ravioli meant to be shared for two between the four of us. Spicy, but not too spicy covered in ground pistachio and sauce. I could not stop eating them even though I was full. Just so good... When clearing the table I pretended to tuck the bottle of olive oil out of sight to take home. Our host laughed... At checkout, we were presented with a bottle of olive oil! A souvenir from a wonderful day at Mount Etna and THE best meal I have had in Sicily and maybe ever...yep, it was that good. We are talking about going back before we leave.... Such a kind joyful host and fantastic food! Small wonder they have 4.5 on Tripadvisor!

This place was very nice and humble, it felt really comfortable and they had comfy seats. The service was amazing, the lady called Lillian was very nice and helpful. She speaks Romanian, Italian and basic english. Were as to the food, the starter is enough to fill 3 people up, it's full of delicious foods and you can also order fungus that tastes like meat! The prices are a mystery, and they have no menu but I think its worth for the price. Overall it's amazing and they have beautiful paintings. 110 Euro for mineral water, normal water, wine, peach tea, pasta, a Humongous starter, fungus and Bufala

This was one of those experiences where you are driving around Italy and end up in some random town and just going to the first place you find and it's excellent. That is was happened to us as we had just did some hiking on Etna and planned to go to Catania for lunch but it was getting late and we were driving through Nicolosi - which was very quiet on a Monday afternoon - and stumbled upon this place as it had a 'aperto per pranzo / open for lunch' sign. We were immediately accommodated and the hostess practically ordered for us (we did not ask for a menu) which was great as we were exhausted from trekking up the volcano for 3 hours and couldn't be bothered. We enjoyed a fantastic lunch of Etna mushrooms, ricotta, prosciutto, salami, figs, melon and a delicious pizza for the kids - topped off with some red Etna wine and a perfect espresso. This is the perfect stop if you ever find yourself...
