Norcia hasn't still fully recovered from the battering it received from the earthquakes, so it can have a slightly melancholy air. Particularly in Piazza San Benedetto which once would have been a perfectly proportioned medieval square.

The Norcians can still fall back on their other source of pride, which is fantastic produce, and that what is show-cased at De' Massari.

Some people have mentioned walking out, but while it is a quiet road, it isn't well illuminated and has at least one serious hairpin. I don't think that's a wise option in the dark. It's best to park towards the rear, carefully, because it is a tight steep turn into the car-park so be wary. The site incorporates a guesthouse and is quite large so it should easily accommodate larger groups.

The food is hearty and rustic and celebrates all the local fare, honey, cheese, charcuterie, salami, lentils and of course truffles. This has always been my favourite restaurant in Norcia, the refined taste, high quality, atmosphere, and service has always given me and my guests good memories. The family owners, have demonstrated a remarkable determination and resilience, as they had to move out from the original restaurant location after 2016's earthquake, and again move two years ago due to issues with the temporary venue. The new location is ok, not what they deserve, but still good to enjoy a meal as a couple, family or when with friends. The food and many classic dishes are still the same, with the addition of nice cuts of selected meats. My recommendation for these with compatible taste, is the "Filetto di manzo with Gorgonzola and black truffle". The meat had a buttery consistency, so tender and juicy, the cream was balanced, you could identify and taste both truffles and gorgonzola in balanced harmony.

I hope they will soon be able to get back to the original...

Tutto quello che abbiamo mangiato era molto buono. I primi: Ravioli alla ricotta, burro e salvia con tartufo e fettuccine al tartufo. In entrambi i piatti, il tartufo era grattugiato sopra in abbondanza. Ottimi entrambi. I secondi e contorni:. filetto alla griglia e tagliata con lardo di patanegra e tartufo. Entrambi con contorno di funghi. Tutto buono, ma alla tagliata va una menzione d'onore! Veramente ottima! Buoni anche i dolci fatti in casa e anche il caffè (che sembra scontato, ma invece non lo è affatto!) Equo il conto in rapporto ai piatti. Purtroppo alla qualità dei piatti non si accompagna la location che meriterebbe. Il posto è decoroso e pulito, ma manca quell' atmosfera che accompagna i ristoranti di qualità. Purtroppo il paese e le attività commerciali, stanno ancora soffrendo per i ritardi burocratici per la ristrutturazione a seguito del terremoto del 2016. E non è certo colpa dei gestori, ristoratori e commercianti che con le loro sole forze, cercano di fare il meglio possibile! Il modo migliore per rilanciare un paese x un visitatore, in mancanza di Istituzioni che latitano, è premiare chi continua a fare il proprio lavoro con serietà e professionalità. Si mangia bene e si spende il giusto. Gentilezza e simpatia da parte del personale di sala e, NON POCO, accoglienza anche per il nostro cane di taglia grande (che è educato e buono, ma che spesso, x via della taglia, non viene accettato nei locali!)
