"Il Rifugio" — Restaurant in Nuoro

Il Rifugio is a family-run gem that captures the heart of Sardinian cuisine. We were lucky to have a reservation as the restaurant was turning away walk-ins the night we visited and from the first course to the last, it was clear why.

To start, we had a simple yet elegant plate of shaved bottarga over celery and mozzarella, the kind of dish that shows restraint and confidence. For my main, I ordered filindeu in lamb broth with pecorino. Filindeu is known as the world’s rarest pasta—fewer than ten women in Sardinia still know how to make it. The semolina dough is hand-stretched into 256 delicate threads, layered in a crisscross pattern, and dried in the sun. Served in the rich lamb broth, it was unlike any pasta I’ve ever had. My wife ordered culurgiones, Sardinian ravioli stuffed with potato, enriched with guanciale, toasted almonds, and orange peel. It was extraordinary, full of flavor and texture, and perfectly paired with a glass of Cannonau.

The atmosphere was warm and unpretentious, the service attentive without being formal, and the food carried a sense of tradition elevated by precision and care. Dining here felt both authentic and special, the kind of meal that lingers in your memory long after.

Hola a todos lo turistas. Si has buscado este restaurante por las reseñas te voy a dar un consejo. Primero de todo aclarar que soy una persona que me encanta ir a comer y llenarme de vida con todo lo que puedo, soy educado y no me gusta poner malas reseñas si realmente no es así. Empezamos por lo más básico. Hemos venido a este restaurante por qué tenia muy buenas reseñas y los platos hacen muy buen aspecto. Estamos visitando la zona así que nos decidimos ir a cenar con mi pareja. Al llegar nos atiende un camarero muy amable, nos dice que está todo lleno y que tiene una espera de 40’. Sin problema vamos a hacer un vino a un bar del al lado. Volviendo 40’ más tarde, el camarero nos dijo que un no estaba lista, lo que entendíamos por cómo estaba el local, y nos mereció la pena esperar, pensado que sería una velada agradable. Aquí es cuando la cosa se empieza a torcer…Viene el “jefe” un hombre con una coleta, medio calvo y con barriga, con un tono déspota y nos dice que todavía nos queda hasta las 10 mínimo. Aceptamos y esperamos…Nos asientan en la mesa, nos dan las cartas y no vuelve a venir el “jefe” s pedir la nota, no entendimos un plato por qué no están los platos traducidos ni al inglés ni a otro idioma, lo entiendo siendo un pueblo, pero por eso los clientes pueden preguntar si algo no lo entienden. El “jefe” nos hizo como una mueca, haciendo alusión a que el plato que le decíamos que no sabíamos que era, dijo con tono sarcástico y bastante desagradable “pescado”, cuando nosotros lo único que queríamos saber era que llevaba el plato. Nos traen un entrante ( nos cobra un suplemento por compartir), se ve que no se puede si pides en pareja ajajajajjajaja!! Nos traen el segundo, pasta, una llevaba un pelo, le decimos muy amablemente al camarero que tiene un pelo, y vuelve a aparecer el personaje en escena y con risa sarcástica se lleva el plato. En resumen una velada de lo más negativa, no por los camareros, si no por el borrego ese que tienen como jefe. Espero que el karma le enseñe a tratar mejor a la gente, ya que a los suyos los trato muy bien y con una sonrisa. El turista ahí o sabe hablar italiano, o no es bien recibido. Espero que esta reseña le ayude a las personas a que puedan evitar gastar dinero tontamente y que se vaya. Disgustados por el mal...

We took a trip from Dorgali to Nuoro because of this place and its charming story…and so glad we did! If Rifugio is the best restaurant we visited in Sardinia. Food quality is at its finest, all cooked with perfection. We tried beef fillet and grilled calamari (the best we’ve ever had including greeks) - both amazingly tender, juicy and tasty. Wine and desserts also 10/10. The atmosphere is authentic and cozy, there were nonstop coming locals and tourists even though it was monday evening. Lots of people were waiting outside. Reserve a table for sure! In addition, Nuoro is quite charming by itself, we observed a spectacular sunset over the hills. So, if you exploring the area, Nuoro and Il Rifugio are exellent...
