La Carbonaia — Restaurant in Peschiera del Garda

Me and a friend found this place while searching for a good dinner after a busy day. We were given a table and our servers were absolutely wonderful. The food was really good and the price was amazing! We had 3 drinks one alcoholic, two mains and two deserts for €40 so a proper bargain. They also had a huge group come in of over 100 people and kept on top of everything. The only reason I give it 4 stars and not 5 is because of one server. She was an older lady with black short hair who I believe might have been the manager. She stood around with an awfully angry expression while all the other staff were working their butts off. She also shouted at members of staff for problems that weren't problems and at one point dragged a chair across the room, catching people/chairs without a care for them only to find out it wasn't needed and left it for another staff member to deal with. She was very rude and to be honest scary. All the other staff were brilliant, happy, on time and great but she really put a dampener on the experience. Meh. The atmosphere is good, the restaurant is clean and the staff is quick and polite. The food unfortunately is nothing special, close to bad. Example: the melanzane e parmigiana was not well cooked, too runny, kind of cold and a bit tasteless. The Insalata Aromatica had mustard on it squeezed from the bottle. If you want an authentic Italian experience this place is not the right one. Looks like only the burger and grill are OK in terms of quality. Some of the dishes are overpriced - 18 EUR for 5 slices of mortadella with truffels and 5 slices of wild boar salami. Another example: Mixed Grill plate 22 EUR - it had 1 piece of each of the following: chicken wing, spare rib, sausage, bacon and lamb. 4/5 of those cuts are low quality meat. I can eat a giant schnitzel with 30 cm diameter in the center of Munich for 15 EUR. I don't understand the...

Absolutely terrible staff who were extremely rude. We went into the restaurant and asked them whether we could sit outside, but they said “no” in a very frustrated manner. Then, when we went inside, they snapped at us to close the outer door (even though it’s a double door and the cold air is already shut out by the inner door. When we wanted a table that was comfortable and had a good view of the lake, they repeatedly refused us and even glared at us for asking. The restaurant was even empty so there was no need to allocate seats, why would they make us sit at a specific table when we wanted to see the lake?
