Al Canal — Restaurant in Peschiera del Garda

At first, this restaurant seemed to be typical Italian with beautiful atmosphere and nice food, which indeed is not too expansive. But we got sceptical, as we waited in the queue and heard the main waitress insult a group of guests before us, who didn't quite understand the waitress' bad English, in Italian. Our super was not bad, but just as the last one of us had finished with his food, the waitress stood behind us, and asked if we wanted anything else for dessert. I said that only I wanted an espresso. She "offered" me that I could drink it at the bar so that she could give our table to some other guests. Luckily, I speak some Italian, so I could persuade her, to give us another five minutes for my espresso, which she in her generosity did give us. 5 minutes later, she stood again behind me, and asked me sarcastically if we didn't want to stay another quarter of an hour. So we went in to pay, where two other waiters thought it funny to spook two of my friends and walk away laughing. The waiter at the cash wasn't kind either, he at first told us that it were impossible to pay separately and then ordered us to go to our table again and tell him our table number. All in all, we can't recommend this restaurant, it's a typical one for tourists and the main waitress just wants their guests to leave her their money and go away immediately, so that other guests can...

Looking at the food of other diners, we thought this restaurant looked to serve nice food for a reasonable price. They offered a 400g steak with french fries for €18 and I was very much looking forward to that. When the food arrived very quickly it looked well cooked with a small portion of fries on the side. The first cut into the steak was lovely, but by the third bite I realized the meat was very gritty, tendon veins running throughout and half of it was actually fat. Our waiter never checked back with us and I tried unsuccessfully to attract someone's attention. In the end I ate the fries and maybe 15% of the steak. With all this meat left on the plate it should have been obvious to the waiter clearing the plates that there was something wrong with the food, but even after I told him the steak was not nice, he just took it away. No apology, no offer to make amends and no reduction on the price! Obviously restaurants in such touristy spots as this one don't really have to rely on repeat customers, but I would still have expected better! This experience has sadly convinced me to stick to ordering plain food like pizza and...

We (5 guests) had dinner at that restaurant on August 08 during high season. We were there pretty early so most of the tabels were free when we came. The food was ok and our waiter very nice. At the end of our meal, when we finished we were asked, if we want anything more; we denied. After our denial came obviously the "lady of the house" and told us that they would need the tabel. So we waited for the invoice to arrive. After 10 minutes the "lady" came again, very angry this time and shouted at us that we should leave the table asap. We told her, that we were just waiting for the invoice which didn't came and that she could be friendlier as we had a nice meal for five (including first and main course plus wine, so good money probably....). Only then were we told - not in a nice way as one can imagine - that we have to pay inside and that we should leave immediately. Such a rude person should not never be let on to...
