I rarely review restaurants unless exceptional or very poor. Now, I know that most people only leave a review when they have a complaint and I guess that is me. Beautiful restaurant. We had great expectations. However, .... We visited on a Monday evening near the end of the season. Service was surly. Eye contact difficult. We didn't order much food. Perhaps that did not help. Bread delivered as part of cover charge. Bread was good. No olive oil. No problem, as waiting for our food and perhaps we could use the bread to mop up. After half an hour no food and we started to eat the bread dry. Managed to get olive oil after many failed attempts to get eye contact with a waiter. I ordered rigatoni with duck ragu. My wife ordered gnocchi. The food eventually arrived. The clue that this may actually happen was when the balsamic vinegar was dumped (with no eye contact or any interaction) on our table at about forty minutes in as we had ordered a mixed salad. The rigatoni was not fresh pasta. The gnocchi was stodgy and bland. My rigatoni was 19 euros. I, naively, expected fresh pasta for that price. Am I expecting too much? I'm not sure, as a previous restaurant, less chic, provided fresh pasta with lots of gorgeous seafood for less cost. Grumpy old man? Paid the bill. Made no fuss or complaint. Even said thank you to the surly waiter. Might be better for you. Locals, or those fluent in Italian, may get a better experience. That is certainly our view. Take it...
Read moreWe visited La Locanda Da Maria on our first night in Peschiera del Garda. It was in the heart of the old town and very easy to find. The restaurant is quite different to many of the traditional Italian restaurants in the local area, with a really fresh and modern look to both the restaurant and the menu too.
The food was fantastic, with the entire table enjoying everything that was ordered. A particularly enjoyed my Pork Belly which was very tasty. My only comment is it could have had a few more vegetables. The bread selection with the first course was also surprisingly delicious and impressive.
It’s on the more expensive side of restaurants in the local area, but it’s also a step up on what’s on offer. I would highly recommend a meal if you’re looking for a special meal or you’re looking for a...
Read morewe arrived for dinner, without reservation, but we got a table in minutes. than we had to wait 25 minutes even to order drinks, and 10 more to order food. we got a basket of bread, but not even olive oil. we waited over 1 and half hour for 4 normal meals and the restaurant wasn’t even full. we was like finally because we were starving at that point. it was a ridiculous portion even for a teenage girl, not to mention an adult man. the food was okay even if it wasn’t enough, but there wasn’t enough salt and seasoning in it. the fist and lobster needed some lemon too. the potato was good and the prosecco was great. the staff was nice but they had too many tables for two people. no t to mention the price value ratio. do better, i could be a so much...
