When we arrived at the restaurant and asked about a table, the waitress reluctantly seated us. She gave us a table for four even though there were five of us. We waited 15 minutes for an extra chair, but no one brought it — the staff just looked at us from a distance and made no effort to help, so we ended up getting the chair ourselves.
We had to ask for menus four times, and each time we were completely ignored. After an hour and a half, we finally received the menus, only to be told that almost everything we wanted to order was unavailable — apparently, we should have booked a week in advance. This was never mentioned when we arrived.
While we were still waiting for the menus, the waitress offered us a random dish with meatballs — we had clearly seen her take it from another table where the guests didn’t want it. It felt like she was just trying to get rid of it, rather than actually offering us something fresh or thoughtful. No explanation was given.
Since we had already waited so long and it was 10:10 PM by then, we decided to stay and eat because the kids were tired. Unfortunately, the food wasn’t worth the wait. Most of it was deep-fried, covered in breadcrumbs, and drowned in the same sauce. Nothing special, definitely not worth two hours of waiting.
The waitress was extremely unfriendly and avoided our table as much as possible. It honestly felt like she had a personal problem with us. Overall, a very disappointing experience — we wouldn’t recommend this place, especially if you expect decent service or basic...
Read moreHad an overnight stay in Pisa in order to catch a flight and didn't want to waste the only meal we were having in a restaurant, and definitely didn't want a tourist trap experience. Did plenty of research and review reading and settled on this place. It was worth the walk (we were based near the airport, so this was about a 40 minute walk). Federica, our server, was delightful, helped us with the menu (it was, quite rightly, only in Italian) and helped us decide what to choose. Every dish we had was delicious, but especially the fried whitetbait, which was the best I've ever had. The whole meal from start to finish was excellent, proper home-cooked italian food and to top it all, only €50 in total, including beer, half a litre of wine, and dessert. We were the only non locals in there. The locals were making very appreciative noises as they ate their food, and there were several people arriving for takeaways. I would say don't be put off by the location, which is on the fringe of a small modern retail complex; not too typical back in England, where it's usually chain eateries, but far more common to find excellent food in places such as this in Italy, France, etc.. Thanks Federica, you made the experience...
Read moreAbsolutely Superb Local and Calabresi Flavors at Sugo e Camicia! Our dining experience at Ristorante Sugo e Camicia was nothing short of exceptional! From start to finish, every dish was a testament to fresh, local ingredients with a fantastic Calabresi touch and masterful preparation. The eggplant lasagna was an absolute highlight – truly delicious and bursting with authentic flavor. It was perfectly layered and wonderfully rich without being heavy, a real taste of the region. The marinated cod was superb, showcasing delicate textures and a perfectly balanced marinade that enhanced the fish beautifully. And speaking of fantastic, the fried sardines were a delightful surprise, perfectly crispy on the outside and tender within – a true local delicacy. We also thoroughly enjoyed the eggplant appetizer, which was very good and set a high standard for the meal to come. The service was attentive and the atmosphere welcoming. If you're looking for a memorable meal in Pisa that celebrates a wonderful blend of local Tuscan and vibrant Calabresi cuisine with flair, Ristorante Sugo e Camicia is an absolute must-visit. Highly recommended! Thank...
