I don't recommend it. We had a very bad experience. The whole restaurant has a feeling like a canteen. No beautiful decorations, nothing to make you feel good while being there. Very standard. We felt like the waiter thought that he was the star of the restaurant. He was speaking very loudly with every guest (there was no need to), and he was singing for himself (very badly) while walking between the tables. As I could see, every guest was trying to figure it out, why does he needs this much of attention?.... It was very disturbing. The food for us was very bland. It was like without any seasoning. Girando le varie e meravigliose spiaggie dell’Elba una mattina, ci siamo ritrovati in località Le Ghiaie. Una spiaggia molto lunga e spettacolare, fatta sia di sabbia che sassolini, con un bellissimo fondale. Unica nota negativa, il kit di lettini e ombrellone che ti affittavano alla non modica cifra di 35€ al giorno, indipendente se sei da solo, in coppia o con la famiglia al seguito (purtroppo sembra essere una formula standard in quasi tutta l’isola). Per fortuna abbiamo notato che il ristorante La Bussola gestito da David Colli affittava ogni singolo pezzo ad una cifra più modica, 8€ cad. Sin da subito ci ha accolti col sorriso e con un modo di fare che solo pochi veri ristoratori hanno conservato. Dopo due chiacchiere abbiamo iniziato a parlare anche dei suoi piatti, preparati con materie sempre fresche. Dando una rapida occhiata, ai piatti serviti all’ora di pranzo, momento in cui siamo tornati per un gelato, abbiamo deciso di provare la sua cucina a cena. Una cucina veramente buonissima. Una frittura di calamari e gamberi con panatura leggera, un “favoloso di mare”, mix di antipasti assortiti, una tonnina all’Elbana. A seguire dei primi, il “delizioso ”, e “le tre uova”, ovvero pasta fresca con un mix di pesce frullato, il tutto accompagnato da un buon vino bianco, per terminare con un cuore caldo al cioccolato e gelato, caffè e un buon whisky di origine scozzese che non assaggiavo da quasi dieci anni, il “bunnahabhain”. I prezzi sono nella norma e senza esagerazione. Qualcuno mangiava anche la pizza, che ad occhio doveva essere pure buona, ma la cucina di pesce per noi aveva la precedenza. Verso fine cena David è uscito dalla cucina e si è soffermato ai vari tavoli a salutare i presenti e con tanta armonia chiedeva loro se avessero gradito. Inutile chiedere quali erano gli ingredienti presenti nel primo perché, come dice un vecchio proverbio, “ogni mago non rivela mai i suoi trucchi”. It took 45 minutes for us to place an order when only 5 tables were taken in the place. An hour later we finally had a bottle of wine. The antipasto di mare was much less than the Favoloso promised. Honestly it was laziness personified with three little dishes that were straight out of the grocery store. The spaghetti Poseidone were better but just with an obscene tourist level of sauce.
