I went looking for a local non tourist restaurant and this is in my opinion the best place to come to eat in Portoferraia. Its not right off a main street, but a short walk up a small road.
First time I came here I had Orecchiette Pasta Alla Pescatora. It had shrimp, mussels, clams and some calamari with red sauce. This was a fabulous seafood pasta dish! My wife ordered the Orecchiette Shrimp and Zucchini which I thought was so amazing that I had to come back the next day to eat this. We also ordered fried calamari which was fabulous! When we came back my wife ordered the Catch of the Day (Compare Fish) with side dish and it was the softest and tastiest fish! They bring table-side and remove the bones from fish before serving. Da Gianni is tucked off a busy road a bit away from the more-touristy part of town. It was bustling when we arrived after 9pm, and we appeared to be the only non-Italian speaking patrons (always a good sign!)
All three of the pasta dishes we shared were superb, each highlighting a different local seafood delicacy. The service was outstanding, the atmosphere warm and welcoming, and the price exceedingly fair (€70 including a bottle of wine, sparkling water, post-dinner espresso, and a...
