WONDERFUL PEOPLE WORK HERE! We were in Rome as part of a trip through various places in Italy. Rome is our longest stop (3 nights, 4 days). We were staying just down the street of this café and I stopped in around 9 PM and like a typical American, I asked for a cappuccino near the end of the night, which I know, isn’t how the Italians do it. The woman working was more than happy to accommodate me and she was very friendly. We decided to go there for breakfast the next morning before our trip to the Vatican and grabbed breakfast. They had a selection of items to replicate an American breakfast, eggs sunny side up (we learned they call it “the eyes of a cow”.) they offered scrambled eggs, bacon, toast with jam, delicious fresh squeezed orange juice. We met and chatted with our server, a young woman named Aurora. She spoke English very well, even with American expressions. She told us she learned the vernacular playing video games and her favorite shows, which brought a smile to our faces, we were quite amazed at that fact. She asked my brother who was translating for us when needed (he speaks both French and Italian) how long he’d been living in France and he responded with “23 years” and she said “oh that’s how long I’ve been alive!”… we all had a good laugh at that, a nice little reminder that we’re getting older. She explained who everyone was in the café and how it’s mostly family and friends working there. The older lady I believe is her aunt, who was sweet as can be, she was very sweet to my 9 year old son. Even the patrons in the café were all very nice! When we came back from our trip to the Vatican we returned once again for tiramisu and another late night cappuccino and the woman from the night before remembered and smiled when I ordered it. They pulled up chairs for the Spain vs Italy football game and put it on the big screen for us while we ate dessert and we had some quick and funny conversations with the other patrons that came to watch the game.
When I travel it’s not the sight seeing, the landmarks or the shops that I enjoy. It’s meeting people like the ones at Moonrise Café (and their patrons) that make me smile, the small conversations, the meeting of such nice people, learning little things about their lives that make my travels memorable. If we were staying longer we would be there every day! Thank you everyone at Moonrise Café for being such wonderful and charming people and reminding me how great the world truly is.
If you’re in the area, please give them your business. Their pricing is great, their service is impeccable, the atmosphere is fun, and the people are truly amazing! I wish this establishment and the people working there the very best fortunes and I hope they remain as they are or better for many...
Read moreMoonrise very pleasantly surprised me. I had pancakes, a chicken cutlet sandwich, and a Nutella pastry. The pancakes were phenomenal and I liked that you were able to pick from a variety of toppings. The chicken cutlet sandwich was tasty as well. Lastly we all had a Nutella pastry which was the best baked good I have ever had. All of this was also at a very reasonable price. The service was also fantastic. The staff did not speak English too well but were incredibly enthusiastic polite and helpful and did their absolute best to work around the language barrier. They even noticed when my friend broke his plastic fork and provided him with a new metal one without being asked. I highly...
Read moreWe found the location on Google maps and choose to walk for an Irish/English style breakfast, firstly they were extremely welcoming and the guy spoke great english. They were happy to adapt meals to various requests for 5, eggs fried and scrambled, bacon, coffee, toast, pancakes, lovely hot chocolate, we thought the price was fair to at 52.80 for full breakfasts and multiple drinks. Very comfortable surrounding, will return for dinner, simple nice menu, the back of which is in english which was great! Love the cafe name, we actually felt we'd had a sunrise experience! it really set us up for a really busy day of sightseeing, totally...
