Heaven on earth! We checked into The Pineta Palace Hotel after arriving to Rome. Immediately we decided to find some real Italian food. We had no idea what was in store for us.
Pros: The food is amazingly fresh. We watched as fresh pasta was being rolled and cut. After tasting the pasta we can’t justify not taking the extra steps to prepare fresh pasta at home ourselves. The ingredients in our meals and desserts were just as fresh as our pasta. Portions are hefty while the price is not. The food alone is worthy of a substantially higher price point.
The service was without a doubt as good as the food. The atmosphere was one likened to a quaint dinner party of family, friends and a wonderfully gracious host. The experience has us excited to see what more Rome has to offer us. We’ve been in Rome 4 hours but so far we love Rome based solely on this dining experience. There are vegetarian and vegan options available.
Cons: At some point you have to say goodbye. There are absolutely no cons for this...
Read moreMet Mauro, the owner, while out looking for a bite last night. He was just closing up, but upon hearing that we were from away, he invited us to a glass of Prosecco before he left. Hr told us a little bit about his restaurant, and we said we'd be back.
Tonight, the 4 of us came back, sat on the patio and ate everything they offered us. Food and water came basically unbidden, and when the dust settled, we were happily stuffed full and out 135€.
The highlight of the meal was the meat platter for 2. Seared, salty meat on the bone served sizzling on an iron platter with potato slices and watercress.
Dessert was a hazelnut cream pie topped with vanilla gelato It was not too sweet and was a great way of finishing off the evening.
I'm sure an adequate meal for 4 could have been had for less than 80€, but we overindulged and couldn't finish everything. It felt authentic and welcoming, and was a great experience.
Thanks to Mauro...
Read moreAfter accompanying a family member to some medical appointments we chose Taverna Sacchetti because they were still open after 15:00 h, for the first dish we ordered their Carbonara which is served with Rigatoni, the second was Pollo alla Diavolo, to say the food was disappointing is an understatement. The Rigatoni alla Carbonara was served under-cooked, well before al dente with some of the pasta served cold, most of the dish was lukewarm at best and the egg cheese mix was of watery consistency. The Pollo alla Diavolo ( the name in some strange way appropriate ) was an unrecognizable bony mess with small pieces of under-cooked meat on it. Without doubt we experienced a culinary disaster in the city with many excellent places to enjoy Carbonara. After more than 2 years traveling extensively throughout Italy clearly the worst experience in...
