This was the restaurant experience I was looking for and set the new standard for my reviews. My experience here set the bar higher than it ever was before. First the food, everything was amazing, soft pillows of gnocchi with a delicious cream sauce, raviolis stuffed with a house blend of salami, delicious red wine, then the secondi, braised pork cooked with pears and cheese... I asked for a knife and was told to try the spoon.... I couldn't believe this meat was so tender so juicy, so delicious.... Unbelievable!! The host suggested having crispy potatoes with the pork and they were perfectly crunchy and delicious. Lastly, dessert, we tried the panacotta and crostata made my mouth drop... I wasn't hungry but I had to see what else this restaurant could do so I had to try the dessert... It was well worth it.
The service was phenomenal, the server or maybe he was the owner was so friendly, so enjoyable, and mostly very welcoming. Of all the places I've been to in Italy he made my last night in Italy memorable. Every time this guy was checking on us he made us laugh. We mentioned that it was our last night and he took his responsibility to make our last meal in Italy seriously.
If you want the real Italian experience please come to this restaurant, the food, the wine, the service... Everything was...
Read moreWe had the best meal of our trip at this small and unassuming local restaurant. There were already two tables occupied when we arrived at 12.45pm last Saturday afternoon.
For starters, we had a wonderful meat and cheese platter spread with blackberry and rose jam and honey. Our main course was a creamy and comforting risotto, followed by tender beef in red wine with crispy and fluffy oven-baked potatoes with bread to mop up the sauce. I couldn't decide on the strawberry or chocolate panna cotta and the owner kindly offered to make it half and half. We washed it all down with a quarter litre of their house red wine which was very good and affordable.
The food was fantastic and the homely atmosphere was a refreshing change from the busy, tourist-filled establishments in the centre. I also loved the adorable sheep and rabbit figurines and the antique furniture and artefacts. But the icing on the cake was the warm and personalised service. The owner, whose name I unfortunately did not ask, took the time to explain every dish on the menu, interjecting his explanations with humorous anecdotes. In a city which can be rough and unkind to tourists, we really appreciated this thoughtful touch. Thank you for an amazing meal! We will be back if we...
Read moreFrom the moment you walk into this quaint restaraunt you feel as if you have stepped into your friends dinning room. Sabino is without a doubt the best dinner host I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He takes his time to explain the food to you, where they get the ingredients from, and all the while makes jokes and makes you feel completely comfortable being there (even if you don't speak Italian). My dinner there was unlike anything I've ever experienced before. We entered the restarauntat 7:30 and didn't leave until 11:30 which is a very long time for an American to stay in a restaraunt, but the funny thing is we didn't want to leave! The locals that came in treated us as if we were family, and despite the language barrier we all ended up joking, and laughing until we were red in the face. The food is PHENOMENAL (ALL locally sourced ingredients), the wine is amazing, and the company couldn't be better. If you find yourself in Rome make sure you go to Osti Matti because it is an experience you will never forget, and one you will strive to make happen at your own dinner parties in the future. Thank you Sabino for your hospitality and warmth. My husband, and I cannot wait to come back and...
