Approdo Agareno — Restaurant in Salerno

The experience was underwhelming. Service was passable at best, but the lack of anyone speaking basic English in a tourist-heavy European destination is just poor planning. It made communication needlessly frustrating.

We were handed the bill at the table but then told to go up to the counter to pay if we wanted with card—odd for a supposedly à la carte place. It felt more like a self-service cafeteria at that point.

Being by the beach, mosquitoes are expected, but the sheer number was excessive. A bit of pest control or preventative measures wouldn’t hurt—they could at least try.

Food-wise: the quality was decent, but the portions were laughably small for the prices charged. The tiramisu was forgettable, and the cheesecake downright bad. As for the shrimp dish, not bothering to devein the shrimp or properly clean them is just lazy. If I’m paying premium prices, I shouldn’t have to finish the chef’s prep work at the table.

In short: overpriced, inconsistent service, and a lack of care in the details....

We went out to Approdo Agareno restaurant for a meal last night 13.07.2022. We asked the waiter (who had a beard) for help to translate the menu written in Italian. We told him that we both wanted spaghetti, one with shrimp and the other with octopus respectively, plus a cooked vegetable dish. We got neither: she got a Risotto with an empty prawn shell, but no shrimp meat to be seen in the risotto. I got penne with tomato sauce and not a single piece of octopus to be found. The vegetables ordered didn't turn up. I complained to the waiter who was displeased with my complaint and walked away. Not happy that I have to pay € 37 including €4 service charge which we felt he did not deserve. My wife had food poisoning and vomited afterwards and felt sick all night. Più che approdo, una ristorazione arenata: di venerdì sera troviamo la grande sala del ristorante vuota, primo campanello di allarme. Avevo scelto di provare questo ristorante insieme a degli amici perché uno dei quali lo stava valutando come location per il suo compleanno, salvato da una pessima figura con i suoi invitati. Bando alle ciance, andiamo al sodo: frittura di apertura, a voce si fa riferimento a calamari che purtroppo si sono trasformati in totani surgelati, il gamberetto decapitato per evitare che si potesse percepire lo stato avanzatissimo di ossidazione. Quei gamberetti erano destinati alla spazzatura e nonostante il vano tentativo di mascherare il problema, come la foto indica, anche un cieco si sarebbe accorto del nero. Le alici erano secche e strimizzite ed infine chiudiamo con le triglie, in uno stato moribondo anche dopo il decesso. Ma andiamo alle 4 "portate principali", un fish and chips da 16 euro, sicuramente non spettacolare., ma migliore a confronto delle altre portate: un trancio di cernia bruciato con frutti di mare da 20 euro, una ricciola, anch'essa bruciata,  con insalatina di finocchi e mandarino 22 euro e per finire tortelli ripieni di burrata e crudo di gamberi bianchi (si, diciamolo, i gamberetti quelli standard che se vai male paghi 10 euro al kg) 16 euro. Questi ultimi 3 piatti davvero incommentabili. Peccato, perché la sfoglia della pasta era anche accettabile, se solo la cameriera non avesse presentato il piatto nominando "una salsa di bisque" (inesistente), non ci ha creduto nemmeno lei. Speravo alla fine della cena non ci chiedesse "tutto bene?", Li ci siamo trattenuti dal commentare a dovere, ecco il  perché di questa recensione, ci siamo solo lamentati del pesce bruciato, ciò ci ha regalato uno sconto di 8 euro. Ps Questa recensione è stata scritta da uno chef e ristoratore con 15 anni di esperienza, mi dispiace, ma è evidente che ci sono dei problemi, spero vivamente che questa recensione possa aiutarvi a migliorare e risolvere, se possibile, le difficoltà che state affrontando. Vi prego di evitare risposte esordendo con "ad onor del vero" come avete fatto nelle ultime recensioni negative sminuendole, vi sprono seriamente...
