Serendipity — Restaurant in San Vincenzo

Do not go for the food nor value. You go here for the view (but they need to clean the windows 😬). Beautiful location on top of the beach.

Why not value, you ask?

The hamburger for the kids is 20euro per portion (more than the price for the average tasting seafood pasta that was 18 euro). The kid hamburger plate had two ingredients: A pan-fried frozen hamburger patty and oven-cooked potato. That’s fine, but not for 20 euro. Nothing else on the kids plate (could ask for ketchup and mayonnaise).

Also, two adults with two kids and a baby cost us 14 euro for coperto (no bread).. a bit hefty. I am fine with coperto.. it is better than tipping. But this was too much.

The menu items were average at best.

We paid double for little (total bill was 120 euros for two adults and two kids. Water and one glass of wine). Up in the mountains in a small touristy village we paid half for a perfect well-cooked lunch and left with our stomachs more than full.

Would, unfortunately, not recommend serendipity for other than a drink with a nice view over the seas or...

We made a reservation for this restaurant for tonight. We really were looking forward to it as everyone was describing the amazing views and sunset. We skipped a day trip to Lucca for it. The children were excited as well. I called to tell them that we would be 10 min later. First they picked up and after hearing me speak in English they hang up on me without any response. Then they did not want to pick up a second and a third time . The line was interrupted every time. I found it strange, but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. The fourth time they said they could not find my reservation and then they told me that it did not mather anyway because tonight they were closed because of some problem. After hanging up I found out that the online sites stated they were open. Very strange behavior of a professional restaurant. This is not a way to treat your customers. Very very...

[Torno in pista con una recensione dopo tanto, purtroppo il COVID mi aveva fatto perdere l’ispirazione (oltre alla possibilità di gironzolare), ma … non ci lamentiamo, vah]

Luogo ideale per pulire la mente, sulla spiaggia, finestroni, tavoli e dettagli curati, atmosfera da caicco. Persone gradevoli, presenti ma non invadenti, appassionate di quel che fanno, per quel che traspare. Molto attente a quel che può mancare all’ospite. Ci accolgono con olio calabrese - deciso al punto giusto - e pane integrale e cereali davvero non banale.

La proposta ci ha stupito: sapori di mare ben evidenti, armoniosamente amalgamati con ingredienti che li valorizzano, senza coprirli. Prodotti ittici freschi e abbattuti, ma nulla di surgelato. Pasta fresca, non so se fatta da loro ma fresca.

Cheesecake del mare: tartare di gambero rosa, su base di Filadelfia e crumble di taralli, tre ingredienti che regalavano in bocca un mix di consistenze e di sapori davvero di carattere. Insalatina tiepida del marinaio: seppia, calamaretto, vongole e cozze, patate arrosto e maionese all’alga spirulina: sorprendentemente ricco di sapore e di tonalità al palato. Spaghetti alla chitarra con pistacchio di bronte e cozze: altro gran piatto, mustosissimo ed equilibrato nello sposare uno spaghetto di cottura perfetta e un’impronta di cozza morbida e consistente insieme. Tagliolini ricciola e pomodorini: un insieme davvero convincente di densità profumata e altalena di sapori marini. Fritto misto con verdure pastellate: morbidezza di livello e frittura perfetta.
