La Pignese — Restaurant in Sanremo

We were recommended La Pignese, supposedly the best restaurant in Sanremo, and went there together with our friend from Sanremo on Sunday December 17. The food experience was a disaster from beginning to end, apart from the service which was excellent. We had squid with a filling of artichokes as a starter. The filling was nice, but the squid was very rubbery and the sauce had a stale taste. I later had oven baked lamb in a sauce also with artichokes. It turned out I got totally overcooked lambchops, which were really hard and dry. Firstly, you don't cook lambchops in the oven at all if you want them tender, secondly, I even suspect that the lambchops were old and reheated and immersed in a sauce to cover its lack of freshness, which is absolutely unacceptable. As a dessert my wife had some pears in wine with nothing to go with it, such as whipped cream or anything similar. When we asked, we were told that the kitchen had no cream, which was astonishing, given the restaurant's fame. I had a very diminutive crema catalana with orange slices which had very little taste. Our Sanremo friend had a "crostata" with no crust at all. The very few desserts available on the dessert tray were also very badly or sloppily presented. We had a lovely lunch here during our visit to San Remo. The servers were very attentive. They supplied very good gluten-free bread sticks for me 👍 I had an appetizer of 2 artichoke flans, one with bagna cauda sauce and one with castelmagno cheese sauce. The artichokes were fresh and very tasty. The bagna cauda could have used more anchovies. My husband had the pacheri pasta, and we both had the stockfish and polenta main course, which was delicious. What a great place! Food-unbelievable quality and taste! Service-impeccable! For this quality, price is very reasonable! They make a lot of dishes that are very interesting and not standard. I wanted to make a picture of the dishes but we ate them so quickly, I didn’t get a chance)))) Recommend to all, especially try their fish appetizer and ravioli with shrimp and curry sauce.
