What a lovely Residence set just at the foothills of this historic village. |We loved the entrance, the building and indeed our room. So why this poor rating?||The total lack of hospitality. As we arrived, we parked our car on the opposite side of the entrance as we had 4 cases...two of which were 25kgs+|A young man appeared and brusquely said, " you can't park here". We weren't parking - we just wanted to unload our cases. No|greeting to us and then he just walked away and did not offer to help!!||On entering the hotel with me alone, carting all our heavy cases, he just sat down and didn't say a single word. Then he stood to show us our room.||This is the disgraceful part. He walked ahead past me and stood at the top of the very steep stone steps and watched a 73 year-old man carrying these heavy cases up these steep steps one by one. Can you believe that he actually stood over me as I struggled the last 3 steps with the final bag? He just passed me by and went downstairs! Shame on you, young man...this was a disgraceful thing to have done.||The breakfast was a total sham. I had to get up from my table 7 times (!) to get, a spoon ( hidden under a cloth by the kitchen), milk, butter, a cup, tea bags, 2 yoghurts, a bowl. There was no toast as there was no toaster. The breakfast table was a mess and not refilled nor tidied.||We did intend to stay 2 nights, but this shameful act put us off, and so we didn't. Neither did we dine there, as we had intended.||We...

Read moreThe room we booked was incredible. The online description stated, "city view." What it didn't say was that the city is Santo Stefano di Sessanio. That's the view you want. The renovation of the medieval structure is amazing. Beams and brick/stone-work carefully exposed, restored sinks, wells, gutters, etc. It must have taken a lot of work to get the place into such excellent condition. The owners, chef, and support staff were friendly and attentive. Their dog, Tucho, (a yellow lab) exuberantly welcomed us with licks and an invitation to play. The breakfast was well stocked with the savory and the sweet and very good coffee. Our lunch in the formal dining room was perfect. Pasta al dente, wine of the region, and perhaps the best amatriciana around. I see no reason to pay twice the price to stay in the upper town, which is about a 4 minute walk. We'll be...
