Our first night in Sestriere, we were excited to have our first meal in Italy at La Vineria Del Colle, located inside the Grand Hotel. With overwhelmingly positive reviews, our expectations were high—but unfortunately, the experience was a major disappointment, leaving me with something akin to Paris Syndrome, but for Italian food in Sestriere.
We started with the mushroom pasta, which was a disaster. The pasta was broken into small, overcooked pieces, drowning in a slimy, overly salty sauce. The texture and taste reminded me uncomfortably of mucus. We’re big eaters, and yet, for the first time ever, we couldn’t bring ourselves to finish a plate. That says a lot.
Next came the lamb chop. We weren’t asked how we wanted it cooked and were served an overcooked, rubbery piece of meat. It was so tough that I had to pause and take a breath between bites just to get through it. To make matters worse, it was completely flavorless—no seasoning, not even salt, which wasn’t offered at the table either.
Dessert was fine—nothing impressive but nothing to complain about. Standard.
Now, onto the good: despite the awful food, the environment was absolutely wonderful. Since we weren’t hotel guests and didn’t have a reservation, we were seated in the wine cellar—a cozy, intimate space that felt like stepping back in time. Surrounded by vintage bottles from 1995, with dim lighting and a warm atmosphere, the ambiance was a perfect 5 out of 5. Our server was friendly, and the wine we chose was excellent—smooth, flavorful, and surprisingly affordable.
But at the end of the day, we came for the food, and the food failed us miserably. For that reason, I can only give La Vineria Del Colle a 2/5.
Would I recommend it? Only if you’re here for wine and ambiance. Otherwise, I’d...
Read moreMe and my partner came here during a holiday and didn't expect much. But as soon as we stepped into the dining area, we knew it was gonna be a nice atmosphere. Being below the ground surrounded by different wines in their own wine cellar was amazing. We got a free appetiser, nothing special but nice nonetheless. The meat and pasta were delicious, and the wine we got was amazing as well as a newfound favourite. I recommend visiting if you're...
Read moreGreat place with very impressive vine collection. The food was unfortunately not matching the scene and lacking taste and all warm dishes served on cold plates. Knowing the cellar is tempered this should be the first step to take when serving warm food. Staying in the hotel we found the buffet serving more appealing and tasty, that’s a pity as you have a great scene that could make dinner...
