Solferino is a small village. A devastating battle that was fought there in mid 19th century led to the creation of the Red Cross. If not for that it would be yet another forgotten corner. However, I was lucky enough to be taken to this lovely Albergo for lunch. Upon arrival in the very picturesque piazza that it faces I could sense this would be a nice experience. The restaurant is first rate! Local produce is lovingly handled, order by order. The ambience is like a dining room in a palazzo. Not casual but not stiffly formal either. Menu offers a nice selection. Sardines in saòr to start and Capunsèi, a local specialty gnocchi, were excellent. My main was a simple Vitello Milanese covered with chopped tomatoes and arrugula. Read moreThe family run hotel and restaurant has given us an experience for life. They took care of our whole family and some friends and we enjoyed their home cooked meals tremendously. The whole family with Renato as the manager provides a wonderful atmosphere for their clients in this small well run hotel with very good facilities.||Their food is fantastic and we enjoyed many evenings on the front porch in front of the charming Museum for the battle of freedom for the Italians in 1859.||Solferino is a wonderful small medieval town with several sights absolutely worth visiting. The Spil D'Italia = a tower from which you can view part of the PO-Valley and from the other part you may see Lake Garda and the Alps. don't forget to visit their two small museums in the middle...
