When traveling to the Abruzzo region, you have to remember that the best food is mostly found on the side streets. This is where the locals go and there is a very good reason: IT’S THE BEST FOOD!
Yes, even Teramo can have tourist traps. You really need to go down the side streets. This is where you will find authentic dishes at prices the locals can afford.
I grew up here. I spent my summers in Teramo. I know the city like the back of my hand, still to this day. Nothing has changed. The potholes are still here from 30 years ago. The buildings have not been torn down and the people here are still the same.
But one thing I can say has changed are the restaurants. Eating out wasn’t a thing back then. Of course, there are Bar’s everywhere. But the restaurant game is newer. There are many many restaurants here to choose from. Because Teramo isn’t a tourist destination like Rome, Venice, etc., most of the places here have American stuff: cheeseburgers, waffles, etc.
You MUST search out these authentic restaurants and check out their menus. There are enough in Teramo where you can figure out what makes your mouth water and then go for it. They are mostly open late and there is no wait. You arrive, you dine.
Osteria Sant Anna is an authentic restaurant with excellent food. We had the spaghetti, the steak, the Gnocchi and the sampler (this changes from time to time).

Fortunatamente l'Osteria Sant'Anna ci ha accolte con gentilezza e il titolare ci ha seguito con professionalità, senza fretta.
