CheTesto — Restaurant in Terni

CheTesto is not a name one would associate with gastronomy. Not sure what the thinking was here? Given our great experience it is unusual for a place name to underwhelm the experience. Often these constructed names attempt to deflect from the fare. No risk of this happening here! The menu is a pleasing, pizza, braceria and pasta. All very good. The chairs are comfortable, which is unusual for a braceria. The piazza is buzzing with kids and dogs enjoying life. Typically the waitrons are run off their feet but seem to manage. This is a consequence of the historical communist influence on worker rights which are so punitive on employers to the point where they are completely disincentivized from employing permanent staff. These worker regulations are the only reason the youth struggle to be permanently employed in Italy. Everyone knows this but no politician is willing to challenge these laws as it would result in political suicide and the forced removal of their snouts from the trough! It’s the equivalent of challenging the gun laws in the US. Back to CheTesto, great evening out all round, at a very reasonable price....

Perhaps we went when they were super busy and understaffed, but it took around 15 minutes for the waiter (who was very friendly and helpful and spoke fantastic English!!) to take our order. It took another 15 minutes for any water and drinks to be placed on our table (30 minutes after been seated), which was then followed 5 minutes after by our food arriving (one of which was slightly wrong). Our side then arrived around 10 minutes after we finished our food, they ended up knocking this off of the bill thankfully. All in all, great food, just bad service unfortunately but perhaps we caught them on a bad...

Sono stato in dubbio se dare 3 o 4 stelle per qualche giorno, prima di scrivere questa recensione. Stando alla qualità delle pietanze, CheTesto si meriterebbe 5 stelle, ma la sera in cui abbiamo cenato qui (io e la mia ragazza) purtroppo hanno fatto troppi scivoloni che mi hanno fatto abbassare la valutazione. Iniziando dalla prenotazione...ci siamo messi d'accordo sull'ora, ma non mi hanno chiesto il nome. Poco male, quando siamo arrivati ci siamo capiti. Quando ci siamo seduti, abbiamo trovato quello che pensavamo fosse il menu sulle tovagliette. Easy, tanti altri posti lo fanno. Riusciamo a prendere l'ordinazione dopo circa un quarto d'ora (e un non precisato numero di volte in cui la mia ragazza ha cercato di fermare qualcuno per ordinare). Dopo aver ordinato vediamo alcuni tavoli di fianco a noi a cui avevano lasciato dei menu veri e propri. Probabilmente su quei menu c'erano le carni particolari. Peccato, perché mi sarei trattato volentieri bene. Ordiniamo un testo umbro da dividere come antipasto, poi un piatto di ciriole alla ternana e una tagliata. Il testo è arrivato subito, molto buono. La mia tagliata è arrivata dopo circa 15 minuti. Quando ero a metà, arriva uno dello staff che ci dice "abbiamo finito le ciriole, se vuoi abbiamo le tagliatelle, sempre fatte a mano". Ok, va bene, magari diccelo prima, ecco. Il problema è che ho fatto in tempo a finire la tagliata e aspettare un'altra mezz'ora prima che alla mia ragazza venisse servita la pasta. Pasta che era pure buona e avrebbe mangiato volentieri, ma ormai dopo un'ora e mezza le era ben passata la fame.

Per riassumere, pietanze buone (testo ottimo, carne ottima, pasta buona) ma servizio...
