Toyo — Restaurant in Trani

Food is very good quality but we had an 'unusual' experience when we went to pay the bill. Our credit card was taken from our table which should never happen. I followed the waiter to the checkout and stood while the transaction was placed. Our card was surprisingly rejected. The manager got a bit irate and insisted on cash payment. My Italian is not great and her English wasn't great either, so she asked someone to translate, whom I later realised was a customer, not more senior management, which was a bit of a shock that she would disturb a customer's meal to do this. When I explained that the card was fine and there was money in the account and the transaction was pending as I could see on the app, she insisted on taking ID etc. We agreed that if the payment did not go through we would return and settle the bill. I contacted the card company and they said that Toyo had not proceeded to process the payment properly. We were on the way back to our accommodation when I received a message to say the transaction was cancelled by Toyo. Odd! So we returned and asked for an explanation and just got a shrug from the Chinese manager. I asked for the cancellation receipt and paid in cash which we got when we left the restaurant. When we asked for a till receipt, she pulled a face and reluctantly handed over the receipt, which raised our suspicions further. As I said food is good but really I would not recommend this place given what happened with our card....

Amici di queste parti avevano organizzato una cena in questo ristorante sushi rinomato, secondo loro, nella zona di Trani. Mi ritengo abbastanza esperto di sushi. Mi capita spesso di mangiare sushi, sia all you can eat che alla carta. Conosco bene la differenza: per quanto apprezzi l'all you can eat è innegabile ammettere la superiore qualità di pesce e degli stessi roll dei ristoranti giapponesi alla carta. Sapori molto diversi. Generalmente all'all you can eat non mangio sashimi di tonno in quanto la sua qualità è molto scadente. Ora il problema di questo ristorante è che si vuole presentare come un classico giapponese, con menù alla carta (e prezzi dei risto giapponesi), location molto bella, personale migliore rispetto agli all you can eat, buona carta dei vini... Purtroppo si tratta di un all you can eat che stranamente opera alla carta. I prezzi sono molto simili a quelli dei migliori ristoranti giapponesì. Questo mi ha dato inizialmente molto fastidio: perchè andare in un ristorante del genere quando ci sono tanti all you can eat in giro. Da cosa mi sono accorto che c'era qualcosa che non andava? Appena entrato senti il tipico forte odore di pesce degli all you can eat (nei veri risto giapponesi questo non accade). Passato vicino al bancone di lavorazione del sushi puoi notare cumuli di fette di salmone e tonno. Il colore dei mucchi di tonno accatastati è rosa pallido, ben diverso dal tonno dei risto giapponesi. Nel menù inizi a notare la presenza di involtini primavera, spaghetti di riso e soia alle uova e verdure. Iniziati ad assaggiare i primi roll poi si nota subito la consistenza del riso, del fritto, del pesce. Il sashimi di tonno era insipido e di colore pallido. Insomma, come all you can eat sarebbe probabilmente uno dei migliori in circolazione, ma io personalmente non ho apprezzato la presa in giro. Probabilmente ero giunto con aspettative...

lovely place on a piazza and if you sit outside you can see also the sea and the port...inside it is also beautiful with arches and old stone walls... completely new renovated! very friendly service, very fast and a huge menu of different types of traditional japanese food....unbelievable delicous!!! ...the best i've ever had...and...a tasty explosion in yout mouth while eating the food! ...very high quality of fish and ingredients!!! ...for that the prices are moderate... ...they have also a huge beer, wine and prosecco menu...also that prices are very normal... ...so you have to go there...!!!! its...
