There are few examples when I try to write a review and don't even know what to begin with because of how happy I feel about my experience. I don't have any recollection of feeling so genuinely content about a dinner.
Restaurant choice is usually a delicate matter for me because the whole-grain plant-based diet tends to dramatically reduce my options. I also happen to have very strong opinions about what a yummy homemade meal should taste like. Add nutrition and climate concerns and you're just about screwed when it comes to eating out.
The menu offers a wide range of appealing dishes that don't make you feel like you have to compromise between soundness and pleasure. For once, in a place that isn't waving an American-wokist-vegan flag on the front door or arboring a fancy neon name sparkling among cactuses on the back wall, plant-based cuisine is the norm and not the little asterisk exception. Everything is whole, hearty, seasonal, non-exotic foods, true to the traditional Italian savors you are looking for as a visitor (you don't have to settle for a sourdough avocado toast or a tofu scramble again). There are actually so many delicious and nutritious options that I feel I will be coming back here for breakfast, lunch and dinner the 3 days of my stay, just to try them all (to the owners, if you are reading my comment tonight, please save me that little table in front of the comptoir).
Is it even necessary to mention it at this point ? The place doesn't oversell itself, is warm, cosy and welcoming, the owner and server are adorable, everything is delightful, blah blah blah. And for once, you don't have to pay a f*ing 30$ for a stupid papaya-goji-berries salad that strikingly resembles a vegan-idiot-tax on healthy eating. Everything is sound here : the ingredients, the cooking, the decoration, the people, the prices. It is a I-never-want-to-eat-out-elsewhere-ever-again kinda spot.
My final words will be the outcry of a true coffee lover : I will never thank you enough for that (plant...
