Biblos — Restaurant in Valtournenche

We went there with a reservation from our hotel for the early dinner hour (19:00). We were the first visitors on the floor. They tried to put us on the worst table (just next to the stairs) no matter the whole floor was empty and we were evidently the first clients. After we politely expressed our concerns we received the next table. Then we ordered pizzas and drinks. We received drinks and started to wait for the pizza. Meanwhile in the next 1/2 hour the whole floor was full. Pizzas started to come on the neighbor tables, one by one,... 50 minutes later we were still on an empty table with only drinks (no even breadsticks or other ‘extra’ on the table for the long waiting period!). Finally we asked the lady who took our order and who was named the ‘boss’ from the other staff: ‘what happened with our pizza’. She was absolutely unamiable and her behaviour towards us was like we (and not her) were guilty for the situation! She only told ‘5 minutes’ and after a second reminder some 15 minutes later, we were finally serviced - with no excuse! Final score: more than 1 hour of waiting for 2 pizzas! Meantime almost everybody on the floor were serviced slower or faster, and more than 20 pizzas were exported in boxes from the kitchen - evidently the restaurant’s main business is the ‘pizza take away’ and the clients on place are just a complementary stuff... At the end of the whole story, the same lady tried to cheat with the rest on the checkout, just like everything she caused to us was not enough! I have no other explanation about this tendentious attitude towards us except for she didn’t like something - maybe the name (from the reservation), the language, the nationality, who knows?! I never met a bad attitude as an Eastern European in Italy for so many years of visiting this lovely country, but in Biblos, this evening, I felt very, very bad. We even coudn’t appreciate the good pizzas because of the way we were treated! If this was just a row of mistakes, they could apologize. But they didn’t. So this was evidently...

I visited this area in the low season of May 2025. Very little was open in the area, but I discovered this gem.

from the exterior the sign Pizzeria does not tell the whole story. This is a very high quality venue serving the highest level cuisine well beyond Pizzas.

For my first course I selected the potato dumplings with hazelnuts and a carbonara sauce. It was absolutely exquisite.

My Secondi I chose the Argentinian beef with home made chips. The beef was cooked exactly to my liking and served with a bearnaise sauce which was delicious. The home made chips were not uniform, but they were thin, just as I like them, and cooked to crispy on the outside perfection.

I only sampled two courses as they are very generous in their portions along with a large bottle of beer at an alcoholic content of 8.5%!

This is quite a find in this area, my second find in the off season.

I really recommend this venue and the surrounding area. I had travelled up to the top of Matterhorn Paradise. Sadly the viewing platform was not open. But bizarrely I crossed from Italy to Switzerland when taking my fourth cable car without any passport control. This is also highly recommended.

This venue to round off a wonderful visual experience is ideal. The local beer is also superb. There is also a friendly service, a tad slower than I'd like, but I was visiting in the off season and staff numbers were low.

The decor is fantastic. It is light, airy and has some great glass etchings around the venue, along with some fantastic photographs of one of the most photographed mountains in the world, The Matterhorn.

A truly wonderful...
