We stopped here to eat mostly by accident, we were hungry and my eldest son liked the yellow awnings, my husband looked at the menu and we were able to get a table after a little wait. It was quite crowded but a nice location, not in the middle of the path, with seating along the plaza. They were able to seat our family of five and the menu was diverse enough to please three kids and two adults with very different preferences.
Everyone enjoyed the assorted bread, crackers, and bread sticks provided to eat while we waited for the food to arrive. This was great as the kids were very hungry and it kept them occupied. We had two Diavola pizzas, they had a very thin and crispy crust, almost like a cracker. My youngest had spaghetti bianco with olive oil and cheese. My second son and I split the mixed seafood appetizer (Misti antipasti di Mare "Bar Sport") along with the spaghetti with shrimp and asparagus (Spaghetti con Asparagi e Gamberoni). We also had the Moeche special appetizer, the seasonally available fried soft shell crabs. For drinks we had fruit juices, a beer, a Bellini, and water.
Despite the crowded conditions the staff were able to attend to everyone's needs in a timely manner. Thanks to the bread basket and drinks we were able to wait and people watch until our food was ready. The seafood appetizer was delicious, with seppia (cuttlefish), smoked salmon, sardines with onions, pinenuts, and raisins, bakalau (codfish) crostini, a grilled prawn, and four small grilled scallops on the half shell. Even better was the Moeche - the little crabs were fried crisp and tasty, on a bed of rocket with a grilled polenta slice. My husband and sons enjoyed their pizzas and pasta. The dish that was the least successful was probably the spaghetti with asparagus and shrimp. Some of the ends of the asparagus were tough, and some were quite soft and became lost in the pasta. My son was happy to eat all the shrimp but the other two seafood dishes were outstanding and far better.
I would say the pricing was fair for such a tourist area, a bit expensive but the food was worth it so we had no complaints for that. The drinks were good but nothing special. The pizza was all devoured. The seafood was definitely the star for me. Service was efficient and prompt. Seating was tight on the outer tables but not unusually so and the chairs were comfortable. The bathrooms were clean if a little cramped (no toilet seats, which is not unusual in Italy) but very much appreciated especially when the public toilet was closed early (4:00 pm instead of 6:00 pm as posted). Inside the building to the front there is a small counter with pastries and snacks that you can pop in and get for a quick take away, also I think you can get canned/bottled drinks and coffee there.
All in all we had a good meal and we were lucky to pick Bar Sport for our family lunch. I would recommend it and if we return to Burano we would happily...
Read moreI asked a local where there were gluten free options to eat while on Burano. I have celiac diseases (gluten free). She recommended this place! The menu listed the allergens clearly AND our server was SUPER knowledgeable on what had gluten or not. It made me feel really safe to eat there. I had done so much research for Venice and where, but didn’t know we were going to Burano until we got there so I had no idea if I could find food. They gave me gluten free breadsticks and also made sure I knew I couldn’t have anything that went into the fryer because of cross contamination (which some places in the US don’t even know this). The food was delicious as well! I wish we remembered our servers name, we were the table that told her about MSG being the acronym for glutamate. Which isn’t actually gluten but can be confusing. If the store owner sees this please give her a bonus! Safe eating is hard plus she spoke English, Spanish, and Italian! So if you go here you have lots of...
Read moreWe were recommended this place by our tour guide, with whom they likely have some sort of commission-type of relationship. The food was good but the service was unbelievably slow. We had 1hr40mins to explore the island before the next leg of the tour. 20 minutes had passed and nobody had serviced our table, whereas all other tables already had their orders taken and food delivered. We had to wave to get their attention. When the food eventually arrived, we had to rush through it, leaving us with just 30 minutes to quickly explore the island. We regret choosing this place to eat as a result of this and feel like we were deliberately singled out.
If you’re recommended this place by your tour guide, please keep in mind the risk of a slow service impeding upon your ability to explore the island in a short...
