Sushi Suiten — Restaurant in Beppu

Recommended by a local we headed here for lunch. We put our name on the waitlist and waited about 15 min. We were the only Americans there and it was busy. We were seated at a table even though this is also a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. It took us a little while before we realized we had to use the button buzzer on the table to summon service(visible in the top right hand corner of my place setting picture). I had read another review that the English menu did not have the seasonal specials so using Google Translate we had the waitress order all of the seasonal specials for us. We will try anything and wanted to eat local. We were not disappointed. At the end we summoned the waitress for the bill. She used her hand held device and waived it over each of the plates we had piled at the end of the table. There's some kind of sensor on each plate that is calculated in the device. She handed us a printout and we paid the cashier as we left. Super fun experience on so...

It's very unfortunate that I need to give this place a zero mark. There was a long lineup, we got onto the quote at around 7pm. Aware this place closing at 9:30pm. They cut off people getting onto the queue before 8pm so we thought we should be ok. We got the table at around 8:50pm, tried our best to order as fast as we can by 9pm. We got our food at 9:15pm, and they started to take away our food at 9:30pm. This place expect their customer to pay around 5000 yen per person, and finish everything within 20 minutes. We were forced to be out by 9:40pm. We wouldn't order that much if we knew they would kick us out within that short time frame. Shame on...

We are absolutely delighted we found Sushi Suiten! The food was amazing! Delicious fish and rice. The only downside is some of the food we wanted to order wasn't available later at night, for which the staff apologized profusely (which was completely unnecessary!). The staff was amazing alround, but we were exceptionally impressed with Mr. Ueda, who seemed to smell our questions and came speeding over even before we made eye contact. He was very friendly and helpful. He was very patient and spend a lot of time with us, and at the same time appeared to be aware of everything going on, and giving everyone the needed...
