Yujiro Soba — Restaurant in Chatan

A local legendary hole-in-the-wall restaurant, this is a local community staple serving up Okinawa Soba and other noodle dishes. While they do serve ramen and yakisoba, their specialty is Okinawa Soba, which differs from other noodle dishes by having flat wheat-noodles in a clear salty pork shoulder broth. For anyone trying Okinawan Soba for the first time, I recommend getting Yujiro Soba, as you get all 3 different types of meat to try (Pork Belly, Cartilage, and Kamaboko (which is a fishcake)).

They have an excellent broth. It's salty, light, has a strong pork flavor while remaining clear, and is incredibly delicious. The wheat noodles are light, bouncy, and have a solid medium chew. The different types of meat are tender and flavorful. The portion sizes are massive—Medium is more than enough for 1 person!

Their side dishes are also incredibly well done, and demonstrate the power of cooking simple ingredients excellently. The Kaarage (fried chicken) is moist, tender, and has a perfect outside crisp that’s fried but not crunchy. It's lightly seasoned, but is so excellently done that you can enjoy it by itself, with some pepper, or soy. The tempura mixed-veggies have a slightly heavier batter, but is smooth and uniform throughout. Overall, it is a very good standard mixed-veggie tempura.

平成6年に沖縄に移住した際、最初に住んだのが北谷のハンビー地区。発展著しいのを観光客で沖縄に何度も渡航していた時期に目の当たりし、沖縄に住むならハンビーと決めてたんです。ところが実際に住んでみると週末は大渋滞で、車で出かけちゃうと、自宅に帰るのが嫌になるくらいの込み具合(^^;) 結局、1年半だけで引っ越しました（笑） 当時は、今と違い沖縄そばLOVEじゃなかったので、滅多に沖縄そば屋に行かなかったんですが、自宅近くに唯一あった沖縄そば専門店が「裕次郎そば」さん。2,3回くらいは食べた記憶があります。 あれから30年近く経過した令和5年12月の初旬に再訪問しました。はっきりいえば初訪問みたいなレベルですよね。なにせ、当時の味なんて覚えてませんもん（笑） 覚えているのは強烈に安かったことくらい(^^;)

昔はお店のある路地と58号に抜ける信号交差点の道路、両サイドからお店に行けたような気がしますが、今は、路地からしか入れません。駐車場も他のお店との共同駐車場になっているようです（同じ敷地にパン屋を発見→次にレビューします）。 裕次郎そばに入ると、流石に年季が入ってますね～ 小さな子ども連れのファミリーが数組食べていましたが、どうやらメニューにあるセットが家族連れを引き付けているようですね。 そのセットは写真の通りで、スペシャルセット4種類各1,100円。基本形は、沖縄そば、野菜天ぷら2個、チキン唐揚げ4個、ご飯です。チキン唐揚げはかなりドデカい（笑） レディースセットもあり、同じ金額ですが、沖縄そば、野菜天ぷら、チキン唐揚げ2個、いなり、アイスティー、ゼリーとなってます。 なかなか凄いですよね。 nobutaは、沖縄そば単品から 本ソーキそば（中）850円 を選択しました。出てきたのが写真の本ソーキそば。 自家製麺の細くて薄い平打ち麺が特徴あり。 面白い麺ですね～ 噛みごたえがないので、高齢な方には食べやすいと思います。 長年、沖縄そばを食べ歩いた後になって思うのは、かなり珍しい沖縄そばだったんだなぁ～って事...
