A giant crab hanging from the facade of the 5-storey building which houses Kani Honke, greets crab aficionados who are about to enter paradise.
Everything in this restaurant is crab-centric; from the water tank full of live crabs on the ground floor, the hanging scroll and the wooden figurines in our private room to the chopsticks rests and porcelain serving bowls with lids.
The restaurant offers a plethora of ways to indulge in the snow and king crabs -- boiled with vinegar, roasted, sashimi, sushi, tempura/deep fried, and shabu. The three of us ordered fourteen dishes altogether, plus yume sour and sake. The bill for this scrumptious feast came to almost ¥25,000 but it was worth every yen.

Read moreOrdered 3 set crab dinner which costs around 7000 yen per person. However, with 3 set portion all together you can’t even have a full crab served. In the menu photo, it says one crab body with crab roe but when it actually served they still only gave you one crab body instead of 3 and they said that they combined all 3 portions of crab roe into one body and (saying that is complimentary service l), kind of not worth it. Whether it’s worth it or not l you can...
Read moreExcellent service as expected from one of the country's top crab restaurants. Serves a combination of snow crab, alsaka crab and king crab, served sashimi, grilled, boiled or in a hot pot. Private rooms setup for better dining experience, slightly noisy from the servers outside preparing the dishes as Japanese wooden sliding doors are with gaps. Parking through car park machine pretty good.
Definitely need to reserve a table in advance, unlike some other top restaurants in Japan, you do not need to pre order pre paid specific menu at time of reservation which is more civil.
Be careful what you order those set meals can be very heavy and may be too much for...
