Mariage — Restaurant in Fukushima Prefecture

If I were earnestly pursuing intimacy with a date, this might be a good place to take her for drinks and nibbles. But andropausal academicians like me are inclined to favor cost-performance over performance anxiety.

This is a cozy below-ground venue directly below Kurenai no Ushi. The fact that both establishments serve wine and Carlsberg Beer led me to wonder if they share ownership or management, but no, Mariage and Kurenai no Ushi are separate businesses.

Price per calorie? High, but the nibbles I had were delicious: an otōshi that included a bite of tomato, a piece of soft cheese, and some greens; a dish of semi-dry marinated tomato, said to be imported from Italy; and a cup of minestrone soup. I enjoyed these first with a glass of pinot noir that was not on the menu, and, toward the end, with a novel cocktail called Hikarigaoka, credited to a former employee of a university that occupies a part of Fukushima City with that place name. Total cost ¥3153, or a little under US$30 at current rates.

Unlike Wine and Gyouza Bar Terui (also reviewed), which keeps good red wine on ice, Mariage serves theirs at room temperature. Both of these places are above my everyday tastes in dining out, but might earn occasional visits...

Probably a nice place with company and you're drinking wine.. personally it's not good. I've been to better wine bars were I both know the sommelier personally and to some were I hate the place and the master is awful and that's was even better than this.. slow service, no communication to guests. Probably a well informed sommelier but not a place to go to. No by yourself or date..maybe for an overpriced business dinner perhaps..

ビルの地下にお店があり、階段を下りてドアを開けると。

おしゃれな空間が現れます。

お店全体は薄暗い照明ですが、間接照明で照らさせたボトル類が雰囲気を盛り立てます。

ワインバーですが、ワインの他にもカクテル、ノンアルコール、ウイスキー、日本酒もあるようです。

コースも数種類あるようですが、フードメニューも豊富にそろっています。

小生実は全くワインには詳しくはありませんが、一見物静かに見えますが、お話するとワインに関して

非常に情熱をもっていらっしゃるオーナーソムリエの方が丁寧に教えてくださいます。

ワインの知識はもちろんですが、チーズに関しても豊富な知識を持っていらっしゃいます。

1人で利用するもよし、デートで利用するもよし、素敵な雰囲気のお店です。
