I have finished choosing the breads THEN a staff in her 50s comes pouring in Japanese rude tone of voice showing me the tong. I bet she wants me to use the tong but telling me AFTER I picked all the bread and placed them at the counter is not useful. The staff is standing right there when I picked the bread if she wants me to use the tong she could tell me right away in the beginning.
And if you want this to be a universal rule I suggest you write an instruction IN ENGLISH HUGE FONTS since you are serious about it then make sure you put a sign everyone CAN UNDERSTAND.
Plus the breads are IN BAGS. If there were no bags of course I would use the tong cause I care for hygiene too. But when foods are packed in bags, I didnt even look for tongs.
Been to Japan several times, 99.9% are very polite and would have told me nicely. And for effectiveness would have told me in the beginning. This 0.01% lady is rude.
