Gifu Tanmen Original Store — Restaurant in Ginan

This is a very popular ramen spot in the area, and for good reason. The fried rice is excellent, and while the gyoza was good, it wasn’t outstanding. The main dish, the ramen, was very good! The noodles were cooked perfectly, and the broth was flavorful with a strong garlic presence. Choosing the spice level in Japan can be challenging for someone who loves spicy food. I went with a level 4 out of 5 to avoid being too bold on my first visit, but even a level 5 might have been a bit mild. They offer a “dangerous” level for an extra 150¥, which I might try in the future.

As for the atmosphere, it’s typical of a Japanese ramen place—lots of shouting out orders and confirmations, strong smells, and tight spaces. I was a bit surprised to hear American 90s pop-punk music playing over the speakers, but as a 90s baby myself, I wasn’t disappointed!

My only real complaints had nothing to do with the food. The wait time was about an hour, with a solid 20 minutes spent outside in the summer heat (in a covered area). The parking lot was equally packed, with no overflow parking that I could see.

In the end, if you don’t like your ramen too spicy, want a quality bowl while being serenaded by the sounds of Panic! At The Disco and shouted ramen orders, and don’t mind a bit of a wait, then this is the place for you! You might even avoid the long wait by going late, as they’re open until 3 am—perhaps a 2 am bowl of ramen is just...

Highly recommend this place. The noodles are cooked to perfect. Broth is a garlic base and it's full of umami flavours. We had a food wars moment ! Service is friendly and they were helpful as we could not speak Or understand Japanese. I recommend getting kaedama (extra noodles) as the portion they give you isn't as big as the other places, but it's definitely worth it because of how delicious it is. Thank you for creating this...

Gifu Tanmen is very light and refreshing to eat. I usually can’t eat all the noodles when I have ramen or udon, but the tanmen is so easy to eat it all disappears. I highly recommend this place.

There are both tables and a bar for you to sit at. I also like the reminders around the store ad in the bowl to not drink and drive. A pretty cool...
